re: problem with engaging gears

well, just an update, regarding my problem with problems engaging 1st/2nd gear when warm.
i finally got around to putting the car up on jacks, and took the starter motor off, and right at the bottom of the casing , was a pile of rubber debris. some dust, but mostly rubber chunks, so it looks like i have the joy of replacing the clutch now!

clutchy go bye bye i drove with my car like that for months without knowing!!! i couldn't figure out the drivetrain lash, and sometimes - not very often mind you - it was difficult to get into gear, and not necessarily the same gear either.

take your time, read up, and have fun with this one!

yeah, no doubt. strangely, it goes into 4th/5th with no probs. just 1 and 2, but seeing the rubber debris was the clincher. i had already re-bled the clutch, with no gain. just in time for the cold weather, as no heat in the garage! dont you just love banging your frozen hands, or cutting them, and the ensuing pain!

I've done the clutch on mine, and to be honest, it isn't such a horrible job as you would think. Just get some decent axle stands, and a transmission jack would't hurt - worth renting one. Believe me, I would rather be working in a cold garage then when I did mine in 100+ degree weather in the summer down here. Worst comes to the worst, get a fan heater to blow nice warm air under the car where you're working.
