Wow, it looks really great. You have quite a find there.

nickd 04-29-2007 10:51 AM

Did you check the vin before you paid?

That windshield doesn't look flush-mounted in the pics, and the number plate area has a different shape than I've seen on real GT's...

Schumi 04-29-2007 11:17 AM

Looks like the real thing. I think that not all the CGT's had the flush mount window.

My god I want one.

fast924S 04-29-2007 11:23 AM

WOw sweeeet find man, That thing looks like its in good shape, Cant wait to see engine shots. MORE PICS ;-)

raj911 04-29-2007 10:07 PM

hi guys, thanks, car looks "good from far" but "far from good". Still I am pretty excited about finding it. I will be stretching myself pretty thin if it goes for full restoration right now as my SC is under the knife right and I am looking for a good used Boxster for my wife. Recon I will just get it road worthy first and then get it cosmetically perfect in about a years time. I really want to drive this thing so badly, think in a couple of months :). I did not pay too much for it, 1.5 times of what a good 924 turbo costs. Will try and get some engine pics soon.

Regarding the Vin, it was checked out and matches, I will try and post that a little later, but the history is pretty well known according to some of the older Porsche guys here. Engine pics will come as soon as I can figure out how to the get the doors open.

Thanks guys for all the help and advice. I can see myself spending more time on this side of the forum ;)

Heh Raj911,

man what a fantastic find it looks great from the pictures, main bodywork looks really good.

how did you verfiy vin and engine no, did you check this with local Porsche dealer or Porsche Germany. I recently bought an original turbo cup car (944) and managed to check all info with Porsche before purchase which was a great help.

It sounds like you got the bargain of a lifetime and would be able to sell for a great profit immedaitely, not that i would, money is not everything i would rather have the car myself.

more pictures please.

Hi Chaps,

Finally got the door open. It had seized from lack of use I guess. Some engine pics.

What do you guys think?

Looks rough, I know. Have no idea what it is going to cost to get it back to pristine.

Think full rebuild, respray, and need to get the whole interior done. The seats are not the original sports seats. I need to get a set of them.

I am pretty new to the Porsche game, only 3 years, and going to try my best not to sell this one, besides it is RHD, not much of a market for them.

Johnny B 04-30-2007 06:12 AM

heh i have the RHD if you dont want it, perfect for South-Africa

This is a keeper, is it defiantely an orignal Carerra GT?

If so you need to restore it back to original and find out as much as you can about previous owners, racing history etc.

keep the updates coming

Hey Johnny B,

To be honest, I did not verify the vin with either the local Porsche dealer in Singapore of Germany.

I suppose I went by what was told to me by the Porsche old timer and by my wrench, (both had nothing to gain from the sale) who verified it was a Carrera GT vin. I am kinda going with their advice.

I suppose I was not paying too much for it, and I did not want it to escape. Bought it from a guy who had it for a couple of years and then left it to rot. Thing is that in Singapore the tax to keep the car on the road is really high and we need to buy a separate licence for the car every 10 years! Crazy! So the chaps here tend only to treasure the 911s and kinda leave the 924s and 944s to rot, which probably was the case for this one.

I just love the stance of the car, and cannot wait to get it on the road.

Will keep you chaps up to date.

Thanks

Prithvi

How about some interior pics,

Does she start?? The exterior looks pretty goods and maybe the engine bay just needs a good clean take away that "back to nature" look it doesnt suit the car

Johnny B 04-30-2007 06:19 AM

Hello Prithvi,

looks like a good deal. If you give me the engine and chassis number i can try and find out if it is a real Carrera GT for you. I know someone who maybe able to help.

Maybe one of the other Pelicans can help as well. It would be great to find out

Johnny B 04-30-2007 06:25 AM

Maybe this will help

The Porsche 924 Carrera GT, model 937, were designed by the factory for homologation for Le Mans. The project number was 937. Only 406 were built. The chassis numbers run from WPOZZZ93ZBN7 00 001 to 406. WPO is the world manufacturer code for Porsche. ZZZ tells us this is a Europe/RestOfWorld spec model. 93zbn7 is the internal Porsche model designation for the 924 Carrera GT. Z is a test code. B is model year 1981. N is the factory at Neckarsulm.

There was a GT, GTS and GTR. The motors were: M31.50/ 210hp/ 8.5CR, M31.60/ 250hp/ 8.0CR, M31.70/ 375hp/ 7.1CR. A GTS number would be wpozzz93zbn71nnnnn. A GTR is numbered wpozzz93zbn72nnnnn.

Johnny B 04-30-2007 06:35 AM

Here is some more info

The Porsche 924 Carrera GT was highly developed 924 Turbo and had a limited production run. It was created for homologation purposes and only 406 were made and of these 75 were in RHD specification. All were finished in either Red, Silver or Black apart from the 6 prototypes which were finished in white.. The GT was fitted with wide poly wings (fenders) and poly bumpers. It was fitted with a thinner bonded in glass windscreen. The bonnet was fitted with a large air scoop to cool the new air to air intercooler which was mounted above the rocker cover. It had a Revised larger turbo which was boosted to 0.75 bar thanks to the decreased intercooled air temperatures. It had a Single box exhaust system and the oil cooler was moved in front of the radiator. Suspension had stronger front joint shells and the springs were harder and lowered by 10mm. A dual circuit brake system was fitted with ducting from the front PU directed at the discs for cooling. Limited slip differential was optional.

The CGT had its own unique lightweight sports interior. But equipment was optional in order to create a car as comfortable or track ready as you wished. LSD, Electric Windows, Panasonic radio/cassete, tinted glass, drivers door electric mirror, rear wiper, headlamp washers, sports steering wheel, cassette holder, sunroof and 16" fuch alloys. Electric windows was a standard fitment on UK cars.

The Carrera GT gave a very healthy 210 bhp at 6000rpm, 0-62 mph was covered in 6.9 seconds with a maximum speed of over 150 mph

The price new was £19,000 which was quite a sum if you consider the standard 924 of the period sold for £9,000.

Chassis numbers: WPOZZZ93BN70 0001 to 0006 Prototypes

Chassis numbers: WPOZZZ93BN70 0007 to 0050 GTS/R

Chassis numbers: WPOZZZ93BN70 0051 to 0450 for the 400 GT

Engine number should contain 3150

The Chris 04-30-2007 11:17 AM

Wow, what a find!

As for the engine bay, it's hard to tell. Blow out those leaves, cover any exposed electrical and air intake parts, then give it a healty dousing of simple green. Scrub, and rinse well. Should give you a good look at whats going on beneath all that grime.

fast924S 04-30-2007 01:07 PM

Does she run??? Man what a find, Your a lucky man

mattdavis11 04-30-2007 02:13 PM

I'm failing to understand why this car would take a back seat to an 83 911 SC on your order of attention list. If your 911 was a RSR, I could understand.
In no way shape or form are my intentions to start a pissing match with any 911 owners, but my goodness, junk the 911 and get this thing going. It's a very nice find.

raj911 04-30-2007 05:29 PM

Hi Johnny B, where do I find the Vin ? I will be going to see the car sometime this week. It is parked at my new house (another project!!), and have not moved in yet.

924s, have not tried starting the car yet, the interior is disgusting!! all mouldy, dank and I don't want to climb in I doubt very much it will start anyway.

Mattdavis11, the SC was my first love, and is already in the final stages of completion. Don't want to stop the rebuilding half way and waste what $$ I have already spent on it.

I have to make a confession here, I am not a DIY guy and don't do any of the work myself. I am having the car towed to my wrench's place next week after he makes some space. My main aim is to get the car running. I guess I will know where to start once my wrench has had time to look at it in more detail. I need to get a new interior, and would like to bring the car back to its original Black, engine rebuilding? will it be as expensive as a 911 rebuild?

Thanks

Prithvi

Umm yea... You dont know what you own do you?

Johnny B 05-01-2007 04:40 AM

Hello Prithvi,

not sure were the VIN and engine no is one your car, I am also a talentless mechanic like yourself and subcontract all my work out to those who know better.

Maybe one of the 924 guys on the forum know.

ALthough you would still need to confirm on your car, what does your paperwork say, licence documents etc they normally have engine and chassis no
