All Blocks the Same????
I can't find my PET cd and I was just curious, are the blocks for the 944 N/A the same as the Turbo blocks? If not, what is the difference?

year for year, yes. with the obvious exceptions for increased displacement.

NO all blocks are NOT the same, If you look at a bare block they have different tolerance bores 0, 1 and 2. If you remove the head you will see the number stamped on the deck along with a stamp on each piston. SO you could get 2 blocks from a 87 944 and the pistons might not fit correctly if you swap them. Thats the only major difference I know of, Other then that same design

The only reason I'm asking is that I have 3 N/A motors and a customer looking for a turbo block to build a race motor. If it's the same block I can sell him one of mine.

OK,LOL I tried to see if there is anytmore threads on pelican about the groups but everythime I try and search my web browser crashes.
So anyway I dont know the measurements/specs for the groups, I know their is a 0,1,2, 0 being the tightest and 2 being the bigdest. Tol. group 2 will not fit in tol. group 0 or 1. 0 wont fit in 1 or 2 , ring gaps will be incorrect and so will piston clearances. So If the blocks marked 2 you need to find pistons that are also marked 2, unless your doing a aftermarket rebuild then you would give dia. measurments. Here is a bad pic of my block marked 1 ![]() Here is the mark on the piston, again cell pic ![]()

I learned something new today. But as far as bare blocks go, the turbo and N/A blocks are the same and using a N/A block to build a turbo motor with after market pistons and such won't cause any problems?
