Compression test

Can I do a compression test on the engine while it is out of the car or do i need to have it in the car so it can be cranked over?

Can I just turn the crank a few times by hand?

Thanks

Not sure turning it by hand would work but maybe. You could put an impact wrench on the crank bolt and turn it with that and it should work ok.

You could always bolt the bellhousing on and bolt the starter on and give it 12 volts. I Dont think turning by hand will work

An impact wrench will not turn the motor, by the crank bolt, it will only snap it if you go clockwise, or loosen it . you need to either mount the bellhousing, and starter, of borrow/rent a leakdown tester, which is the better option .
Good luck
Fred
