Porshce 911
I was contemplating getting a 911 porshce.
At the customer service desk an owner stated that they had a 2005 911 w/ low miles and the engine blew. They said they baby the car. For the price they charge this certainly makes me look at other cars! Sharon Slickis |

Update...
Reinstalled the oil pump with the new splined sleeve and reinstalled the oil pan with the new pan gasket as the old one was brittle. It was one of those "while your in there" replacement items. Now the semester is done I will put some hours in the garage and finish the motor up. I have the pulleys for the BSB and TB to assemble and the head to install. Then I need to find a way to get the car into the garage with it being buried in a 3 foot tall snow drift. Speedy ![]()

sorry about the trouble
It was for sure the valve seat that caused it While it is out you should do the rod bearings on the replacement FYI these na engines are far stinger than given credit I have been running a ton of boost on one and just swapped to a turbo head and the cylinders are perfect Good luck if you have any questions I have been pretty deep into these things lately |

Its funny you posted. I was just thinking of you and your project mule. I wasn't going to do rod bearings seeing as I didn't want to do a full rebuild of the motor. I already had it apart more than I wanted and I had to stop somewhere. Right now I am operating on a limited budget both money and time due to my engineering school commitment. I made a sacrifice to the Porsche Gods in hopes this engine will be a strong runner. BTW I worked on this engine many times before I acquired the car and was indeed strong before the car was victim to a hit and run. Speedy ![]()

I still think you should throw another 80 at it. I have found the rings to be vey good even after many miles , same with mains. You can reuse the pan gasket. If you do the bearings I would not be afraid to treat it like it is fresh.
The mule is on the back burner again since I just picked up race prepped 951. It currently weighs 2450 and I have everything very well sorted on my DD 951 to run over 30 psi so iwill just swap parts I Currently looking for a 944 s engine to trade a turbo engine for. I am not afraid to run high boost on the na pistons just swap rods with new bearings and rings |

We were able to finally get the car into the garage. It is a tight fit but hopefully I have enough room to do the engine install.

The engine is assembled and ready to go in. I think I am going to put it in through the top since that is how I pulled the engine.
I think I may bypass putting on the 4-2-1 long tube header with the exhaust. I am working with limited space, time, and temperature. The needed exhaust is on the parts car outside and it is a warm -20 degrees out. This modification will have to wait until summer. I am just hoping I haven't forgot anything along the way. You're crazy. I won't touch a wrench in this weather.

The problem with this type of cold is that when you touch a wrench, you can't let go of it.
I've done my share of working in cars in -30*C weather (and yes that includes installing an engine in a 951 in an unheated garage at -35*C), now I just drive newer warrantied cars when the snow starts flying, and park the fix-it-yourself car ![]()

Sorry to resurrect a thread but I'd love to know how this turned out. My 44 w/~201K had good comp and 3-5 leak downs and w/in a few miles (and in an instant while driving) developed a bad knock and the comp #: 210,165, 185, 90. And while checking comp, coolant sprayed out #4.

The car is running well and I was able to get a full summer of driving in last year before putting her up for the winter. It has been nice in Wisconsin the last couple of weeks and I was going to pull her out of the garage for some driving buy alas it is snowing right now.
I do have a minor oil leak I need to fix but other than that she is running strong. I even took her to the timing belt tensioning party at many944s in Indiana last year. You might have a bad head gasket which isn't all that hard to change out. Speedy ![]()

A lot have been saying head gasket but with the knock, I'm afraid of possible hydralock and a rod having been hurt. Combine that with the price of a good, sound ~100k 44 motor at under 500.......

Regarding the original cause of engine failure (cylinder failure), I'm wondering whether it is plausible that the order of events was a) a headgasket failure, leaking coolant into cylinder, and b) a cylinder explosion due to hyraulic compression of fluid in that cylinder.
Just uninformed speculation of course, but it does seem curious that such a violent mode of engine failure should happen at such low revs, and I was wondering whether a bit of "hydraulic enhancement" to the destruction might be the explanation.
