Porsche Crest differences between 944's

i have a 86 944 na. just bought a parts car a 944 turbo i was thinking all the turbo parts would fit. However i see that turbos have ceramic portliner and I'm not sure if the 944 n/a has this how would that effect the performance? Also what is the difference of the internals of the two motors?

anyone know of any parts that would or wouldn't fit for the turbo conversion or upgrades from the 944 to the 944t

the car i bought was blown up would anyone happen to know how often you can blow a trans downshifting? my current 944 needs a trans and i hope that the trans in the turbo is good dude said he blew motor in town downshifting into second around 5k

The block is essentially the same, the difference is in the pistons for compression. The cylinder heads are different but interchangeable. The big difference is the ceramic coated exhaust liners and the sodium filled exhaust valves. The ceramic liners keep exhaust gas energy up meaning better boost response. The sodium filled valves will give better heat transfer (cooler running). They are not necessary, plenty of guys use the 2.7L n/a head for 8v 3.0L builds which has neither sodium filled valves or ceramic liners. Other than that, everything else is the same...crank, rods..etc.

As for whats blown on the motor, need a better description. Is there rod knock, did a piston rod go through the side of the oil pan? Its definetley possible to over rev the engine on a careless downshift. The transmission in the turbo is not a good match for the n/a's engine. The gear ratio's are different and your n/a will suffer from even worse acceleration.

Sweet the guy i'm buying the car from said it's locked up possibly broken piston i'm not sure what would break by overreving i hope the turbo is good

does anyone know how much a 2.5 na motor will take for boost? i would realy hate to blow up my car after getting new trans and turbo.

what about the suspension is it also about the same? did they just switch the springs?

Would not boost N/A more than about 5-7 PSI depending on gas.
Also connecting Rods would be weak. If Old, Headgasket you might blow it easy. Newish 5-7 PSI probably OK but not as good as a stock turbo.

I wouln't worry about the liners and valves too much.

I would however (since yous is an 86) worry about the shortblock on anything over 7-10 psi on reg pump gas.

I would do the best I could to try to use the turbo shortblock even if you need ot use you block and crank as donors.

Honestly, once you start to feel the boost you will not stop at under 10 psi. may as well get the most out of the swap.
