Broken Hatch Pin - How to Fix

While trying to adjust my rear hatch, I broke one of the rusty pins. The other one is pretty well stuck too so it will most likely break when I try to adjust. I did spray it with WD-40 a few days ago and let it sit, but here I am now.

Can I remove the bracket and drill out the pin? Or is it easier to get an entire new/used bracket and pin?

Thanks,
Rick

Bracket easy to remove. Pins are replacable either steel of stainless available. I would try to drill it out. If the threads are bad in the bracket you will need to replace that too.

If you have drill handy, the auto parts store sell the drill sets to repair
the broken bolt without destroying the thread hole.

Be very careful. the bracket (wings) break easily. I ended up getting new brackets and pins.

Cheers

I just drilled out one of the mount bolts yesterday. The metal is very very easy to drill through. And yeah, watch those wings...

The piece that the pin screws into is actually removable from the piece that bolts to the hatch. I doubt that you'll have much luck drilling out the pins (I didn't), but the female pieces are only about $10 each from Sunset. The pins are similarly inexpensive.

^+1 Don't waste your time drilling it out. Just remove the block of rubber that the pin screws into and the old pin will pop right out.
