New owner hello and questions

Hi all,
I just purchased a '86 951 with about 123,000 miles on it for a song, and need some input on next steps. Here is the major work that was already done on it:
Valve job with all new valves 75k
Turbo Cup clutch at 78k
Lindsey Racing Dual Port wastegate and manual boost control (under the dash above the drivers right knee) at 92k
Guru 18 psi chip, Huntley Racing Cheater Turbo and 3 Bar fuel pressure regulator at 93k (turbo had about 5000 miles at the time)
Rebuilt steering rack at 93k
Cross drilled Zimmerman rotors 93k--new Mintex front pads at 98k (rotors were turned at this time as well) Rear drilled Zimmermans installed not too long
after the front
New power steering pump at 97k
New front wheel bearing at 98k
Updated water pump, belts and seals and stainless steel brake
lining at 100k; 928 brake bias valve at this time also
New distributor cap and dust seal at 103k
Updated castor blocks at 103k
New high pressure power steering line at 106k
New J-boot at 112k
New Malh fuel filter at 114k
New NGK plugs (BP7ES--a step colder plug gapped at .26) at 118k
Injectors were cleaned and flow matched by Witchunter at 119k
New battery at 119k
Recent oil and filter (K and N) change--Valvoline 10/40 blend
K and N Air filter
Coolant was changed at 119k;
Redline MT 90 tranny fluid used at 120k
New Comtec head gasket around 120kk and new timing belt (need to still adjust)
new crank seal and O-ring installed just last month
New weather stipping on all doors, hatch, and sunroof

So beside maybe changing brake fluid, all fluids are good.
Interior and Body are near perfect., all new carpets, etc.

Here are my only issues I can see:

1) No a/c- will deal with this next Spring.
2) Cruise control does not work after installing new head gasket. does anyone have any clues on how to adjust this?
3) Tire rubbing: PO had installed 17" ATE Italia Razze wheels (correct, early offset), with 255's on back. I rub a bit on hard acceleration (nice problem ), and on real hard turns (basically the way I like to drive). I am thinking of just rolling the fenders out a bit in the rear as I have Koni 3 way sports and it would probably cost more to tighten them up. The ride is already pretty firm as it is. Has anyone rolled with the wheels before?
4) "Microlocks" I can lock from inside dash but when i close driver door, it will not close all the way to I end up needing to lock both doors manually from the outside, since when the dirver door unlocks it opens the passenger. He said the microlocks were

If anyone has any comments on the issues I would appreciate it. Besides those, I think I got a steal for what I paid

For the cruise, check the throtle cable running on the intake and make sure it's reconnected to the cruise unit.

For rolling fenders, look at my post about 1/2 into this thread. I'm surprised you are getting rubbing, what are the offsets?

Widest wheel

The back are 17 X 8.5 with 13 offset, the fonrts are fine so I am not worried about them.
as for the cruise, if i pull the cable it does pull the throttle, so I guess it just needs some fine tuning?
Thanks!

Nice car. I though only the front wheels had a problem with rubbing?!?! Well I have 17" 993 cup wheels with 245 tires out back with no rubbing. 225's up front with no rubbing there too. Under hard accel and turns.

I dont know about you guys but I dont mind looking at dash cracks. LOL.

Thanks for the Kudos. Actually I cannot see the cracks while driving. He had the cover on when i bought it and it protects it from the sun so I decided to keep it on since it looks pretty good too. I drive my bike daily so this is my fun car, and I want to make it near perfect if I can, and then maybe get an MAF and 3" exhaust
Not sure why back only, but the thing hauls with the hurley cheater turbo so it literally pushed the body close around 10 o'clock on flooring, just like it did with Techno Duck.

+1, good god!

Welcome and congrats. The 951 is a great car but it will require regular and constant attention.

When were the belts last done (date)? You mention they were done at 100k and the car is now 123k. The belts really should be done every 30k miles or three years to be safe. I'd highly recommend at least checking them if not replacing them. This is a definite on the list of "things every 944 owner should be able to do themselves". There are dozens of write-ups on this procedure and lots of people out there who can help you out (throw a t-belt party, you'll learn a lot).

The a/c probably has a blown compressor. The stock units tend to leak if you look at them funny. I've only ever seen two 951s with working air conditioning - one was my old one (and it only lasted for about six months before I lost the car to fire). And it took me three compressors, two new hardlines and about $200 worth of freon to get it that way over the course of several months. The other was a real garage queen and never driven. Unfortunately (and sorry for the generalization) most 951 owners these days are kids who are too cheap to spend the time and energy (and money) on fixing the systems, so they sit. Or (worse still, IMHO) they get a "delete kit" to eliminate the compressor and replace it with just a pulley because it allows them to pretend it's a race car (never mind the 40 pounds of evaporator and condenser assembly they leave sitting there, along with all the associated hardlines). So long story short, best of luck with the a/c system. I do recommend having it working - it makes a big difference in the summer AND during the rainy/misty season (the compressor runs with the defrost on in order to dry the air - it makes the defroster MUCH more effective).

Both the Huntley stuff and the Guru stuff are now obsolete (both have gone out of business). They both made decent 951 upgrade pieces but just something to think about if you decide to mod out the car going forward. Sounds like it's already what I'd call "lightly modified".

Love that red interior. That's a really nice one worth keeping fresh looking and clean (aside from the aforementioned pimp rug and that wheel - wtf is up with that?) But up to you. Personal preference thing I suppose. It does overall look to be pretty clean.

Finally (this is a must) - CHECK YOUR FUEL LINES. I lost my 951 (and many others have too) due to the inherent design flaw of the rubber fuel supply and return lines running from the passenger's side fenderwell directly over the blazing hot exhaust headers to the fuel rail. As you might imagine, this (along with the ethanol in the crap they call "gasoline" these days) causes deterioration of the fuel lines, making them weak and brittle. Please, please, PLEASE, PUH-LEEZE check or (better still) replace them preventatively. It takes less than 15 seconds to go from "hmm, what's that smell? Smells vaguely like gas" to full-blown inferno with the entire front of the car from tip to cabin engulfed in a fireball. Ask me how I know.

Enjoy your car - 951s are a special bird and take a special kind of person to own them and care for them. You'll find a wealth of resources here.
