Please some help with ''running in'' issues
Now have my 89 2.7 repowered 85 model on the road legally but still have the following issues;
![]() 1- Lots of balance belt and cambelt whine,(more than my other motor) all my belts are as new and it doesnt sound like roller noise,other posts have suggested they maybe overly tight but all is ok with the balance belt and my cambelt has the later self tensioner ![]() Is the toothed roller on the tensioner prone to failure? 2- Still can't get my tach going ( see photo's ),is the 2 pin plug under the dash for the tach? and is the green/black wire #4 in the loom the feed for this?,where do I run the second wire from to the tach. 3- Poor idle and high fuel consumption- as you can see by the photo I've had air leaks are there other common places for air leaks I should be looking for? Manys thanks in advance. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

As for belt whine, while some is normal, you may want to check the adjustment on the balance belt idler. This can cause a lot of noise if it's set too close to the belt and consequently spins all the time.

Cheers Slam,yes you are right about b/belt idler ,mine was tensioned towards the belt so I set it .5 mm away so it works when the belt is deflecting on to it.
It appears the spring type c/belt tensioner puts more load on the belt than the old type system. Replaced throttle body/ AFM boot and engine now running better and now have tach working,thanks Dean. |
