Hi all! Thank you to everyone who answered my last questions, it was a huge help…BUT now I have a new one….so while removing the crappy aftermarket alarm the previous owner had installed, I came across something in my engine bay that I cant find listed ANYWHERE!!!!! Not in my Haynes manual, not through the other forum I belong to…. It's mounted to the passenger side front strut/shock assembly, on the inside of the engine bay, with a rear facing orientation in other words, its between the firewall and the strut tower….its round and flat, like a flying saucer…. It has a positive and a negative cable running to it, and what appears to be two adjustment screws beneath plastic caps all of which are on the top of it. It has no other lines going into or away from it….the weirdest thing, is that the only reason I noticed it, was there was no longer a positive lead connected to it, and I cant even find a wire long enough to go to it anywhere near it. Also, the car was running just fine when I parked it two months ago to begin the interior restoration, so my question in a nut shell…what is this thing, and since it wasn't hooked up, does that mean its a completely unnecessary to the proper running of the car. I dont have a pic as my phones camera is all jacked up, but if no one can help I will try and post one in a few days. Thanks in advance everyone for any help you can give me, this part has been gnawing at my brain for three days!!!!!

seriously, get a picture of it. someone is bound to know what it is. it doesn't sound like a stock part, as i cannot think of anything like that attached to the strut tower in either of the 944's i've owned.

Thanks all but it looks like VirginiaF1 got it right....but that's what's troubling me because everything I've found says that the factory alarm is on 85 and up....mines an 84 so why do I have a factory alarm on a car thats not supposed to have one.....oh and I did figure that with battery out if I hook the battery from my drill to the positive connector I should get sound from it....but nothing happened so at this point I am assuming this is an unnecessary part at this time. Especially considering my ultimate goal of getting the car below 2000 pounds and still be street legal....so thank you all for your help....either way I will find out how to get the pic to uploaded so others in the future know what it is too.....

Yup extensive and expensive too lol but I have already killed almost four hundred pounds total ...front bumper and stops removed rear hatch replaced with fiberglass one ,headlights and motor assembly replaced with custom home made fixed halogen projectors, rear seat is gone spare and hardware for it gone ... wing Windows replaced with lexan plexiglass , ....... next up is I'm removing the dash and building a mold so I can make a fiberglass one to lighten it and so I have no cracks lol then its lexan to replace the factory sunroof (motors were blown so I gutted those and associated wiring ) after all that well I will have to see lol cause that all has me and my bank account tied up for the next three months.....once its all done final numbers (should) around 285 HP 240 torque @ 1987 lbs dry weight (no fluids , driver) ......I will be posting pics once everything is done and step by step instructions on the custom work, and a final suppliers list.....

Complete engine overhaul. Port and polish new cam piston rings etc... and once all of that is finished there is a super charger made as a bolt on piece that provides an additional 48-55 HP at the wheels ...manufacturer is slipping my mind this second but I found it with a simple google search....that boosts everything without requiring any head or compression tweaks. All told the project will be this.....
Used 944....2000$ New parts for upgrades...17,645$ Car lighter and faster than most modern production cars... PRICELESS!!! |

ok, so let's say you do have a bolt on supercharger that adds 55HP at the wheels (but can't remember the manufacturer), this amounts to, at most, 225HP at the crank. yeah, i am skeptical. why not just turbo your '84 NA?

If you are going to do that much engine work replace the NA pistons with Turbo pistons - then you can go to 15 psi boost and hit the HP mark.
Turbo pistons are 8:1 compression and are iron coated for the Alusil cylinders already.

If your going to do all that, I have a full stroker kit in the classifides (3.0 crank and raised wrist pin pistons) at a HUGE discount!!
The best we can do on a NA build is 142hp @rw. If you want to go big... go stroker! -Nick
