Hi Matty,

You posted the alarm goes off randomly.

Sometimes disconnecting the battery--waiting a few minutes and reconnecting may reset the alarm.

I do not know if this will help. This will not fix the alarm only bypass it.

You have the '86 944 so read the note on bypassing the alarm at the bottom of the page--check which relay you have. There are 3 styles.

Bypassing factory alarm

944 Online Forum - The Porsche 944 Forum For The 944 Enthusiast.

This may be a last resort solution. Try at your own risk.

It sounds like a wire, ground, coil connection is shorting.

Sorry, not much help.

John

matty,

Clarks garage also has the bypass info with pictures:

Alarm System - Bypassing

A cracked ignition switch could also be the problem (?).

The horn is located behind the battery for the alarm. I had the same problem and I just removed the horn. Now the lights flicker occasionally but it is more of a temporary solution. I will look into the ignition coil as well. I recall reading that a bad battery can cause the alarm to go off, although I have no idea why that could cause a problem. If you find a fix, please let us know!

94 968 alarm going off at ramdom

My daily driver 968 's alarm just randomly started going off whenever the car is locked. Ideas on the cause?

I have the same problem with my '87 944S. I replaced the brain, but no joy.

it's frequently a pin switch, like at one of the doors, the hood, the glove box, etc

Check and make sure there isn't any moisture in the fuses / relay compartment. My son had that problem once after washing his car...don't ask...he isn't a car guy.

I know this is an ancient thread. Thank you all for the guidance
Just went through this on 93 968 and mine was the hood switch. It was intermittently working and misaligned, just worn out. Unplugged it and immediately got single blink condition

follow up. alarm started going off again and this time i traced it to frayed / broken wiring in the harness that runs from the engine bay into the hood...seems over time the bending of the wires from opening / closing the hood caused the wire for the hood sensor to break and go open. intermittently
