Question Can you ID this part? (picture)

This is the picture of the underside of a 944 hood just above the battery. The part here I've circled serves as a water deflector. Any water which runs down the windshield on the right side of the car has the potential to pour right on the battery without this part. (My Porsche is missing this part and hence doesn't like water) Can anyone ID this part to give me a name or part number through which I could use to get one of these?

it looks aftermarket, (hardware store add-on) my car doesn't have that

Your battery should have a plastic cover and a drain hole in the battery well to take care of any water that gets in there

I'll have to get a picture of my car's battery arrangement, but at the moment if I wash the car I must cover the positive terminal of the battery otherwise water will pour onto it. It's not as though my battery tray begins filling with water, there is a drain hole, but the water pours onto the battery itself. If anyone has a picture of the plastic cover looneybin speaks of please post it. I'm looking for either the part I'm missing or a reasonable way to protect my battery from water.

Looks like part number 46 on this diagram. I haven't found the part number though. I am in need of something like this too.

Got one on my 968 & seen them on S2 before,it's a guard so keep water/debris from you battery top.

Water on a battery doesn't hurt a thing. Its not going to short out..... If it were going to, I would be dead by now. None of my cars have the positive terminal covered.

It would protect against any malicious damage. If someone was so inclined they could short your battery against the hood with nothing more than a small screwdriver.

It might even prevent some of the leaves and debris getting in there and blocking your drain hole. i.e: prevention against battery drain pan rot.

i always thought it was a guard so someone couldn't disconnect your battery positive terminal and therefore disable the alarm system - all three of my 944's have it although only one has the factory alarm - if that's not it's purpose then i don't know what it's for

Auhh this could be what I have been looking for!
Just awhile ago the wife was admiring the car til she looked at the bottom of the windshield where it meets the hood, and with a whole lot of words said she didn't like that space and how you can see the battery...blah blah!

Wassabi, I noticed you had some tape going on in your first post. Do you have an issue with windshield leak?

Thanks for the thanks mate..
it feels nice to contribute to a site that has helped me out so much in my first year of ownership.
I use ***********'s website for parts identification...
(yes, I've read the caveats on their biz practices, another reason I love PP)

Option M551 is the Boxster's Lexan WindStop between headrests..

I have M533 and indeed this plate blocks access to battery terminals.

My wrong( wrote 551 instead of 553)but still no option M553 on mine.So by the time they produce the 968 it must have come as a standard piece of equipment.

+1 on the anti-theft device. I purchased one at the dealer for my 87 turbo back in 87. I was told it was to keep a thief from cutting the battery cable and disabling the alarm.
