Component Weights (list)

Weighed some of the components I've removed, so I'd be great to compile a list with all their weights. For those of us that are seeking to lighten the vehicle, this could prove useful.

I'll start.

(11 lbs) late NA 6 blade radiator fans + housing
(6 lbs) alternator/ac bracket
(17 lbs) late alternator
(4 lbs) rear wiper motor and arm
(19 lbs) upper rear seat
(1.5 lbs) hatch release motor

Not that I am aware of ????

Both are factory. Fit is identical. All NA.

The light weight tube headers were OEM on my '87, I replaced with cast iron.

Yep. Originally the '83-early '85 cars had cast iron manifolds, the '85.5-up had tubular. There's even a later version of the tubular that fixed the cracking issue.

i wonder what the difference is between that tube type and the one on the 968? they look identical in the PET. part numbers are really close too. in 10 years i've only heard of one 968 header cracking. why would they crack in the 944 but not in the 968?

There was some change-over point in mid-85MY when they started using the tubular headers on early bodies...my car has them stock, along with late coolant sensor and a turbo-drain-equipped oil pan...but as a general rule yes it's early vs late.

Right, but I think they revised them in '87 and welded them up differently, so the '85.5 and '86 are prone to crack, but the '87 (or maybe it's '88) and newer are not.

Anyone have a weight difference between the US vs Euro bumpers?
Hmmmm... chunky aluminum vs fiberglass. (or is it plastic?)

they are a type of reinforced plastic. they are very light, but are quite strong. Your sunroof skin is made of similar stuff. I've had a few low impact hits on mine including a tire wall and a possum and it's done no damage except to the paint. I replaced my front bumper with an AIR 924 carrera GTS reproduction.

I forget how heavy it is but i can hold it outright in one hand with a straight arm comfortably for a good few minutes.

there is an in between aluminium bumper but Im unsure of the option code for it or why it was deemed necessary. to me its sticks out as very different from a normal RoW/euro front bumper and is similar to US bumpers.

this car lives a few hours south of me.


It sticks out more like a US bumper and it has much more pronounced bumperettes. I think they may be metal like US ones, not rubber like RoW ones. The lighting arrangement is identical to RoW bumpers but they are mounted cleanly to the bumper. On RoW bumpers they have a plastic frame that screws in over the top and the rubber bumperettes are screwed into the frames.

Aha, I see.

That bumper on the maroon car looks identical to the US/Canada ones. Minus the bumperette and driving light.

I don't like how ridiculously square our bumpers are. The ROW ones fit much better since they taper as the go forward, and there's a cutout that matches the valance.

Our massive bumperettes are also rubber.
