This is just one reason why I want to make this list. So we can have an actual answer to the light grey/linen discussions. (with pictures, and codes)

I know for sure that LQ is light grey, it's the same color as my 87, and many, many other 944.

As for calling it light grey. Well, that's a far stretch of the imagination. If you find some of the interior that's never seen sunlight, you can see just a hint of grey.

For all intents and purposes, it's Tan, or Light Tan

Can't find any pictures, surprisingly, of my black S interior. But it's black, and the option code is LT. 1987 944 S.

Yep, Burgundy is one of the easy ones. But you are right, LX

My 85.5 is burgundy and it has the color code LX.

This is great, you have a lot of the colors and color codes. Please keep them coming.

I need linen, brown, and champagne. Also light grey seems to have more than one color code, which is interesting.

Here's a pic of the light gray (hell grau) script along with the tag I found inside. It also has a part number. 91152163406NZ3. It is interesting that the unexposed script cloth is tan/beige while the exposed script has faded to gray. This is from a 81-84 sport seat.

It's a little hard to tell from the picture. But is it a black interior with grey script seats? Thanks for the color code.

I updated the post. It''s black script seats. Not my car, saw someone post pictures of it and the option code. He said it was black, but yeah, looks kind of grey

I posted a champagne example on your other thread on Rennlist. Do you need me to post my champagne (PE) here also?

KY914Newbie, Thanks, I forgot about the RL posting. I didn't have my account set to send me an email when someone posted, but I do now. I grabbed the picture of your car and added it to my list. Thanks very much. It looks great. I thought the color code was PE, but now you confirmed it.

Hey Jeff968, thanks for the info. What year is your car, and what color script seats do you have. We have a black interior with black script seats and the code was EB, but there could be more than one code for that color.

Greenwater, I am with you regarding the Gery/Beige vs. Linen discussion, after looking at this over the years.

For the record my car is an '88 with XP interior code, and is the same basic color as in the '87 924S shown here with XP interior code. Look in my garage to see the color.

I am reasonably confident that this is the "Grey Beige" color most have been mentioning as Light Grey, and is the same or very close to the LQ from earlier years.

Only on the '89's and up do the colors get really light to basically an off-white color, which as far as I can tell is "Linen".

I think that Porsche did some renaming of things after '88, so where what they started calling "Light Grey" in '90 is closer to the "Linen" color of '89, but it gets confused with the "Light Grey" of '86 which is entirely different.

With all of that said, I did a color match with some swatches from Automotion and the one that matched most closely to my "Grey Beige" seats was what they called "Linen"...

GreenWater,

My car is a 1992. It is outfitted with the full leather package (code VD) which included leather seats front and back, dash, door panels, console, the works, and cost $5K back in 1992.

Code EB is the code for full Porsche script cloth seats in black meaning that the bolsters as well as the inserts are made of the cloth, everything you sit on.

Code AB is the code for partial Porsche script cloth seats in black meaning only the inserts have the Porsche script and the bolsters are done in leatherette.

The full cloth seats are much rarer.

Also, look for cars with option code 526. This got you the Porsche script cloth on the door panels! Very rare.
Jeff

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for the info, but your car is a 968. The interior color code list that I'm making is for the 944. It seems like there is more info out there for the 968 and none for the 944, but thanks for the help.

Are the AB and EB codes for the 944, it seems like they are, and that's a big help. Thanks

Nice car by the way

Greenwater, since we are all relatives over here you'll find many common traits including interior codes. Note a few posts back that bealum posted his black leather interior 86 944 has code LT. That is the same code used for black partial leather for all 4 years of the 968. If it is the same interior, especially in the later years of the 944, the codes are shared. Now, if it is a different and unique interior (color) for the 944 then of course, different codes.

Thanks Jeff, yes we are all friends here, I just want to make sure that I'm not getting mixed up with the 2 different cars. I have no idea if the color codes are the same, or if they are different. That's why I just wanted to focus on the 944. I would think, logically, that the color codes should be the same between the two cars, but you just never know. I just wanted to play it safe.

I do thank you for your help, it's awesome. Keep it coming guys. The list is starting to actually look like a list now.

So I obtained some samples from GAHH, an OEM interior restoration shop, of both their Linen and Grey Beige. My '88 951 has the XP interior designation, which some have called one of the two names.

I also have a sample of the Linen from Automotion (the only color that they offer), and it is pretty much the same as the Linen from GAHH.

Here are the color comparisons, with the Grey Beige swatch being the darker of the two:

Door panels:

Rear Seats:

The seats in my car have been replaced by some from another car (don't know for sure which), so are close but have more of a red tint than the originals:

So in conclusion I think it is pretty obvious that Linen is too light of a color for the '88 and earlier cars, other than when the sun bleaches out the grey beige and makes your interior look like Linen. The '89+ cars are indeed Linen, however.
