Unhappy something went wrong

SO im cruisn down the road just chillin in fifth gear and all of a sudden a big clunk and no movement. I had the transmission linkage at the shift lever go out the other week so i check that first and all is well there. What is more likley to go out in an '83. a transmisson or the differential?? any help would be greatly appriciated.

"Big Clunk"...Yikes, that could be a lot of things...Clutch, tranny, CV joints...

Could you get it into gear after the clunk...Was the clutch pedal fine...Did you have a look under the rear of the car...Does it work in any gear...

I imagine that the clutch is fine never had problems with it and the engine was out of the car not too long ago, im sure it would have been noticed if it was wearing out, the clutch pedal is the same i cant think of what have went wrong with it, and i can feel the car go into gear, but somethings not making it to the ground.

Oh man, I think it's not your Clutch or CVs because they don't go out like that. It's worst, It's your tranny gear.

Humm... let's see here....

almost like you are in neutral?

Sounds like a clutch - a CV should be pretty easy to spot.

Worst case, R & P, but usually they give some warning before they go

I understand that the LSD's were few and far between. Verify that your is a LSD before making that call. It might save you a couple of dollars.
