Inner and outer

Ok, with the engine out, which mark do I align up TDC? Inner, next to the engine, or outer, not next to the engine? The PDF manual sez align the marks on the flywheel to the cast mark on the block, but the picture they have shows the outer mark on the flywheel, but it isn't lined up with the mark! I have an automatic tranny flywheel, and it's different than the 5 sp. flywheel. The automatic has two levels, with marks on both.

My digital isn't working and I'd have to take the flywheel off of the motor and bring it in. You've never had to find #1 TDC on an automatic tranny 944?

Ok, I just looked at both flywheels, and the only difference is that the autotranny one has the 4 thingys for the flex disc and the area closest to the motor is steped down about a half an inch. The marks are the same on both, in the same places.
