Any chance this car is in San Diego, one down there sounds like it they have been trying to get started for about 6 months. Are you sure about the pressure being good at the fuel rails? Seems like the cold start would be enough to make it start.
Could be a bunch of things, could be more than one thing. Have you checked the injector signals with a noid light? |

Yeah, is it that "I'm gonna sell it for more if I fix this fuel pump issue" in San Diegos Craigslist? If so, there are a few of us with OB's in Sunny San Diego.

noid
Nope. You need a noid light. The signal is too faint and rapid to be picked up on a multimeter. An oscilloscope works. A noid can be picked up pretty cheaply. If it runs when you put fuel down it's throat and you have pressure at the rail...I am going to speculate that you are not getting signal to the injector(s). Clean your grounds (all 12 of em) and clean and check all FI connections and all relay connections. Get a Noid (as if the car wasn't annoying you enough already!) I would think the cold start would at least kick her to life for a bit...But, then again you may have a T2 sensor out or something. Are you in SD? Pretty City that. The Zoo was great and I loved the boardwalk. IF you are too chap to get a noid...Not sure if it can be done on a 928...But, I have pulled the fuel rail with injectors off of a 944 and watched it squirt. or....Listening with a stethoscope you should be able hear the hiss and click of the injectors.
Zundfolge.

Noid light for an old bosch / Ford style injector is maybe $10 at Pepboys etc.
I've seen cars after sitting with 8 clogged or frozen injectors, but it could be a number of things, a noid light just narrows things a bit. So is it the San Diego car?

well grounded
the ground points are....
![]() Give a good clean and inspect to the brain connections. As a Wild guess...green wire?....CPS?...T2? Ran for 10 secs and then didn't...bizarre....well at least it gives you hope. Check the connections that might have been jiggled about.

Starting and running, for 2 or 3 seconds is what I would expect from just the cold start running, are you sure it was closer to 10 seconds? |

Had a similar problem with my 83S USA car. Talked with Jim at 928 International and he advised me to check the DME (I think between the radiator and the engine). I think that I just gave it a few taps with whatever I get to it with and it fired right up. I'm sure that I did either that or cleaned the contacts really quickly and "varoom." Good luck.

I like puzzles, first clue what would a "trick 391" be, Mopar?
Could explain him dodging the question. San Diego guy was trying to flip *** a 928 to pay for a Mustang project if I remember correctly. *** Flip, to buy cheap from one 928 owner, and sell high to another, while asking the rest of the 928 community for help fixing it to boost the price. Kind of a driveby triple screwing of 928 people. |

trick flip?
Well...IF someone is trying to "flip" a 928....Good luck to em! I know lots of dealers and would be flippers that got burnt big time by 928's. As we all know they don't lend themselves well to flipping and odds are that you do not get the money out of them that you put into them. It is just the nature of these beasts. A Non-runner is not worth much and even if/when you get it to run there is condition / documentation / title / registration, etc..... This is why experienced dealers tend to avoid them as investments. 928 Buyers know what to look for and at best a flip can produce a running project. Of course a running project is better than a non-running project so I guess there is a small profit to be made. However a non running Porsche 928 as an investment for resale?

reason
Yea, I thought about it some more...You would have to have rocks in your head to try and flip a 928. The story is not likely to have a happy ending. By the time most of em fall from grace there is some serious work to be done.
Pics??? What are we dealing with here? Where and how did you get the car? Are your intentions honorable? Do you have manuals? Documentation? Title?

Glad to hear you aren't him.
![]() Check the green wire from the distributor across the front of the motor on both ends etc. for damage or a poor connection. Weird how many 928 owners have Chevelles, there is 69 or 70 with a 532 sitting in the shop about 20' from my 928, with maybe a dozen more dual owners who have posted about it. People who make money flipping don't touch cars with problems (intentionally). They buy very nice cars, detail and fix minor things, then sell them at the premium really nice cars that look perfect sell for. |

Chevelle
The 69 Chevelle is sooo pretty! I love the tail lights. It is easy to tell 69 from 70. The 70 has rectangular taillights, the 69 taililghts are trapezoidal. 532 CI? way too big. Small blocks are the way to go. That poor car. Maybe my next project car.....The problem is they are all so darned expensive nowadays.
Please don't flip any car in corners, It tends to scratch the paint. Also do not become a U boat commander as in "Risky Business" as submerging cars is not a good idea unless you are James Bond. Does the Tach move when you crank the engine? Do you have manuals? Documentation? Dangerleb is right on.... Green wire is a suspect.
