Is anyone running without one of these?
This is a plastic part that runs at the bottom of the timing belt path.

Nope, mine is still there. It probably protects the belt in some way.

It was omitted in later cars and is only found in the early cars ( up to 83 I believe). I asked about it when I did my TB job on my 82 since one of the bolt "ears" was broken off. I was told by someone knowledgeable that it wasn't entirely necessary.

It has something to do with the tracking of the belt if I'm remembering correctly. I would go search for that thread but the Rennlist search is useless these days. Sorry
