Update on the 86 Mossgreen Metallic 5 speed

I am in the middle of a refurb on an 86 5 speed. it has about 180K miles and seems to run pretty good it has a Louis Ott X pipe and 2 1/2 in pipe all the way to the back.
The brakes were toast and the LF spindle was blue so here are a few pictures

Merlin- we have the same color. It looks very classic. By the way- in what position do you store a viscous fan. Like it sits in the car? Gunar

Went to the Porsche dealer today for a ride in the Cayenne, and Panamera .
I took the 86 to the dealer .
I also got a new set of T Twist wheels in 17.
The Panamera does look bigger than the 928

Great Looking Car -

Hey Mrmerlin, I have always thought that the twist style wheels on a 928 has to be at the top of the best dressed list of updates. Those interior photos makes me remember the initial panic I went through once I had the dash out and then realized I hadn’t made enough duct tape notes on how and where to properly reinstall everything. Some of my self inflicted electrical and vacuum issues chased me around a bit but eventually everything had a happy ending.

once you take a few dashes out you kinda get the hang of where things go,
they really are not that complicated ,
in fact its engineered very well from a take it apart aspect

It gets easier and a bit faster, but R&R of the dash is still a good sized job that some fairly minor things require. What I see as the good side, and this is true of most Porsche things I think, is that nothing gets sloppy from taking it apart. When your done its like new, no funky plastic fasteners that now sort of hold etc.

That's a good point, never really thought about it that way.

And, no razor sharp sheet metal edges, just beneath the facias.

If I NEVER see the dashboard of a Chevy Lumina again, it will be still be too soon.

Logical Layout -

I agree that Porsche did an excellent job in designing the component layout behind the dash very logically. After removing the complete interior to chase down some instrument, A/C control unit and vacuum module problems, my wifely assistant easily became about as familiar with the location of the electrical connectors and mounting hardware as I was.

Rare Front Disc Option -

Hey Mrmerlin - While following the original post on refurbishing your 85 928 I had initially missed that you had a photo (Top - photo #3) of the ultra-rare quad front brake disc set up. Man you talk about stopping power - I bet those suckers on each front spindle could pull you down to 0 mph from any speed in microseconds.

Like I said earlier Very Nice Car - Love those Twisties.

Aren't your twisties different on either side? One side they "chop", the other they "slice"..

Don't know if that made sense

Owning a 928 is risky business - but sometimes you just gotta say "what the fudge".

Riber thats correct about chop/slice,
since you can only look at one side at a time its not very noticeable

Wow, Riber you are good. I totally didn't notice that until you brought it up. Merlin, why is that? 2 Pairs of 1 side or is that the way they were sold from factory?
