Why did you replace the rear mounted trans and Weissach rear suspension? Weight transfer and handling just left the room. It will work but where's the improvement?

Paraphrasing Bullwinkle Moose, I never said it wouldn't work, just that it wouldn't work "well".

My factory stock US 83 will cruise all day at 145 mph, and is considered by most as the finest long distance cruiser ever made (all model years of the 928). I would not expect that conversion to be even close.

Not at all, I just believe in an open market where a blown off high school education and a manual labor assembly line job it takes 3 days to train for would pay $10 to $15 an hour with benefits.

When the government steps in and starts taking over business and placing union interest ahead of legal stock holds that's where I draw the line. Sometimes you just have a bash a failing business on the head and stop the suffering. Government has no place medaling in free enterprise.

Plexus: I will give you the benefit of the doubt and extend the same "challenge" I keep issuing to other mythical vehicles...You must drive from TX to CA and then SMOG your re- engined car in CA..... If you have ever dealt with the CA BAR and Smog issues...you would realize what a perilous task awaits you.

Dangerleb: 145 mph all day....sigh....that would be so nice...Where is that Autobahn entrance ramp? And how on earth do you NOT get a ticket? I have police pulling me over just to check out the car...

No, you believe in people working for $1.25 per day. What you DON'T understand is that attitudes like YOURS will lead to your OWN job being outsourced or reduced to $1.25 per day some time.

I'm a unionized worker, and that can't happen to me. What about you? If my boss decides he simply doesn't like my name....he can't fire me. What about you? If my boss is gay and hits on me, and if I refuse his advances....he can't fire me. What about you?

-If I find a 727 with a major mechanical problem, I can down it. If my boss doesn't like it, he can't fire me. At some airlines that is what happens if you write up an airplane....

You'd have us all working for Mexican wages. Try buying a Porsche on those please! People like you who don't understand that your OWN job relies on average people making $10- $15 per hour plus benefits are what threatens the health of this countries economy! The MIDDLE CLASS is what makes this country roll. China has almost NO middle class, and their economy is 1/4 of ours, despite having 4 times the population!

Hello? Has it hit you yet?

Danglerb I'm surprised at this. You seem to be pretty intelligent overall- I cannot believe I'm having this sort of conversation with you. You must be quite a bit older than the 29 years that I had kind of pictured.

That is fascinating!

-The big question is WHY did you want to use the Toyota transmission, which would of course require major body work? You could have EASILY mounted the Toyota engine to the Porsche bellhousing, torque tube and transmission. Why go to all the trouble to remove the rear transaxle?

Inquiring minds want to know.....

After Tom Cruise lets his dads 928 roll into a lake, we see him the next day at the Porsche dealer and service guy says the line, Who's the Uboat commander.

I just checked the label on my blood pressure medicine and it says no discussion of unions, sorry.

[QUOTE=rich;6302449]Why did you replace the rear mounted trans and Weissach rear suspension? Weight transfer and handling just left the room. It will work but where's the improvement?[/QUOTE
Weissach still there, from what I have read, it was an early 4 wheel steer set up, from experience with several 300zx 's cars handle better with it disabled , I''ll see how it handles when it's up and running and take if from there.
Why would I replace the rear mounted trans?
for starters, it's design dates back over 35 years, it's 3 speed,(OOOOEEEE!) and apart from costs of parts and overhauls, I don't think it would handle the power of the engine if I chose to feed it a few steroids.
the 5 speed lexus trannie is 21st century, electronic controlled, I wish I'd been able to score a front cut from the year later- 6 speed auto, (from 2008 -8 speed auto)
Handling: the engine and trannie weigh less than the porker engine on it's own, as you can see from the pic's the engine is mounted further back, and another200 pound weight loss at the back end, all the weight still between the front and back wheels rough estimates indicate it will still be close to 50/50 (but about 300 lbs lighter
Also , I heard a rumor that cars that don't have a transaxle can still get around a corner

More;
In the Lexus 430, weighing 4026 lb's this engine pushed it 0- 62mph in 6.2 seconds top speed was limited to 143mph in the models released in the states, my cut was ex Singapore, no limit! YEEE HAAA!
So the same engine trannie combo in a car that will weigh in at about 28-2900 lb should just move it along a little bit quicker, 1100 lb advantage.
In anticipation of this ,I have installed a 3.08/1 LSD, lexus ran a 3.26/1 so I will probably pick up a few more MPH there as well
(not interested in screaming power off the line, just building this for the open road.)
A couple more advantages, 6 bolt mains, an engine that can support 1000HP without touching the bottom end, All alloy 4 cams, Vvti, and it does not have jetronic injection.
Sheeeeeit! an engine that only needs opening up the breathing and exhaust to make 450+ HP, and in standard form now has near identical torque as a 928GTS,
that's the improvement.

Not many assembly lines left here. But you can go to China where they get paid $0.75/ hr and that is the LOADED RATE for line workers.
