Ok, back story, PO said his son bought new tires, right after that, car quit running right, and started "vapor locking". they replaced pumps, but still had troubles...car was parked and messed with a few years...then sat, until I bought it.
today, put it up on jackstands to work on, and I see this: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In case you cant see what this is...looks some moron put a jack or lift right on the fuel lines....now I know why it wouldn't stay running for the PO's. Soooo, the fuel lines are crushed. I am thinking a high pressure compression fitting? I can fab a protective shield... ANY ideas besides replacing the entire length of fuel line? 78 5sp. |

In my opinion, I would be afraid to repair that. Maybe you can source those two lines for cheap. 928 Intl is an option.

There is not much steel, and then it goes to rubber, connecting to the fuel filter accumulator assembly. I found a couple of possible solutions online...some nice double flare compression fittings that go to barb....which might be my solution... Perhaps someone here knows a fix....replacing the lines actually does not look too hard...I am sure I can get soem steel fuel line and make one...., would like to patch it for now, and replace when I actually get it running and get my shop built... All good Ron. I think if you know how to do compression fittings to a barb, that sounds like a great way and then new fuel line to your Accumulator. I'm just don't have that kind of repair experience. Get 'er done!

Well your thought process is on the right path i.e. either replace the lines or cut out the damaged sections and re-fit.
Make sure you use the correct pipe/tubing bender so you don't flatten the tubing at the radius while bending. That sucks

Well, I definitely am a believer in what I have learned so far...one thing leads to another...WYAI ? Is that it? While your at it? Or is it WYIT. While your in there... Lol...
It is really fun to have a project though. Back to the fuel line... I think I will go from steel to barb, then either run hose or braided hose from the barb back to the accumulator assembly. There is about 3" of straight line I can cut near these bends, that I am sure I can get a flare tool up to. I believe I can get a double flare die on it, that will be a pretty permanent fix actually. Anyone know what size the line is? Looks like maybe 8mm? 78 5sp |

Someone doesn't know how to use a jack.. Don't you just love those people? I dont think it was vapor locking. I think it was starving to death.
But hey, if he hadn't bought new tires, he wouldn't have jacked it up, and you wouldn't have a 928! Hah.

LOL! I thought the same thing....It was like the clouds opened above and the heavens shined down when I saw the crushed lines....at all four corners there is lift damage...I don't know where they got their tires, but I will stay away from that shop! Idiots...
The PO said (about his sons) yea, they had just put new Pirellis on there when it started giving them trouble and breaking down...Of course the tires were gone when I bought it, but now I know why...poor girl....stoopid owners!

find another car thats being parted out and get the line from it ,
it may be a bit of a chore to RnR the lines but thats what i would do

Ok, got the calipers, but had to meet with our builder this evening, so I did not get home until after 10...so I hope to measure the line tomorrow when I get home, then see if I can source some parts locally, or see if I need to order the fittings. I'll post pics, but it might be awhile...I am over budget for this month....I need to buy some fuel line to reinstall all the parts for the fuel system that were in the trunk, and put the tank back in...also need to replace the "joints" on the spider legs under the hood....I wanted some fancy silicone ones, but found a good deal on the oem ones on eBay....I gotta stick to a low budget until I can determine if the motor is good or not....then go nuts!

![]() ![]() I can help you with my 944 "fuel hose fix"......... ![]() Its a Male flare fitting that you connect a proper fuel hose to. You will have to get creative as to where you make the connection, but you can use this any place you have a 10mm or 8mm metal fuel line. You cut & flare the metal line & connect whatever length of fuel hose you need. I can make up a proper fuel hose of any length as well. A couple of passing thoughts...first, that does not look like damage from a jack as seen in your photos. It looks much more like impact damage from hitting road debris. There is directional scratching in the damaged areas is there not? Also, those fuel lines do not look closed off enough to keep the car from running, at least at lower speeds and above idle. It is of course a very good idea to resolve the damage, but I am just sayin' you may not solve your running problems by repairing these fuel lines...
By the way, of my 3 928's so far all of them have shown undercarriage impacts with something, and most of the rest of the 928's I have been under likewise...

tmpusfugit: Thanks for the input...it does look directional...I noticed that as well, but on all four corners, including this one, you can make out what looks like an impression from the cups on a lift...so I was assuming that is what crushed the lines...could have very well been caused by dropping off a curb or something, she has had a rough life. The PO said the car would run/ idle fine, but would vapor lock as they drove....one of those lines is very crushed, near flat. As this car has been sitting longer than it should have, I am sure it will not solve all my running problems. I am replacing all the rubber fuel lines, fuel filter, both fuel pumps, the fuel strainer, the accumulator and already cleaned tank. I will be disassembling the CIS distributor, and anything else connected to the fuel system and clean, repair, rebuild, or whatever needs to be done...I am a month or so away from putting this all together.
