and another question
Ok..while trying to trace all the vacuum lines, I noticed a hose off...went underneath, and this hose comes from what looks like the power steering reservoir...just open, under the car...I also noticed what is below it...looks like the air pump? Why does it have a blue plug with what looks like orange "form a gasket" ? In fact, I cannot find anything connected to this pump, other than a belt from the crank? WTF is it?

Forgot the pictures...LOL
![]() ![]() I am on the passenger side, behind the front wheel, looking up from rear to front... The photos need to be rotated clockwise one side...I don't know why they uploaded sideways...look fine on the computer.

Ok, makes sense why you were asking about the diverter valve, none of it would make sense on how it all ties in as your missing some parts here.
Looks like they plugged the two ports on the back of the air pump. Below the blue plug is another flat spot there, that's also plugged. See green arrows. Look at my reply over on the other thread and it will all come together for you. ![]()

Thank you! I wonder how well the car ran without those pieces?

Any idea how to make a replacement for what is missing off the back of the air pump? I hate to buy a new one...as I look at pet, it looks like a cover with two stubs...methinks I can fab a stub for each opening, and pipe em up from there....shouldn't be to hard...

How do you know the pump even works. I've heard some PO's removing the insides just to get past a visual smog. In Calif, that would fail right off the bat as they will trace the hoses to nothing. You could easily buy all used pieces to make it work again if that's your goal. If you don't have smog or smog visual. Remove all that Smog Stuff.

I can do that....I'll put pics up soon...looks like everything else is there....
I don't have emissions/smog testing here. They just plug into the ODB and look for engine codes....1978 may be exempt...maybe just remove the belt?

No computer in your year so no OBD. I would remove the Pump all together. Pics like I asked will show has or can be removed. You'll have a huge Vac leak if your pump is routed back to the heads.

that pump is not connected to squat. There is a big plugged hose at the back of the heads, passenger side. I'll get you pics..
Thanks Leo!

Here are pics...pay no mind to the firewall, that is not rust...it is glue where the insulation/heat blanket has failed and peeled down...I will have to cut and replace a section of it...

AirtekHVAC: ![]() A= Connects to EGR valve at bottom of exhaust manifold at one end and underneath spider at upper side. B=Feeds into exhaust port on CIS heads. C=Check Valve. Normally there would be a hose on the check valve that connects to the diverter valve (that's probably the plugged hose you mention). Looks like your missing everything that goes between the check valve to the back of the air pump. I'm in California, we need to pass a visual inspection and tail pipe readings, so I have to have it on my car. Do you want to restore your 928 to the way it came off the line or are you just looking to get it running? Are you sure that's a plug on the dist vacuum line? My car has a short 90 degree vac line elbow coming off the dist, then a reducer (which looks a lot like what your calling a plug), then a vac line to the throttle body. Below is the vac line on your throttle body that should connect to the vac on the distributor. Hope this helps. ![]()

if no one has mentioned it,
you definitely need new flex fuel lines, make sure to use E30 fuel injection line one line is 5/18 the other is 3/8 diameter

Thanks Mrmerlin, and rjm! The very first picture shows the big plugged line coming off the tee at the rear of the head. I really don't care if the air pump is hooked up, as long as the car runs properly. I may eventually put it back in, but if I don't need to, the goal is to get it running...
The Distributor vacuum advance has (2) ports, one underneath the "dome", and the red plugged one on the top of the "dome" Already got new fuel line...just having a hard time getting my fat hands to the connections at the fire wall.

BTW, I bought the Barricade fuel hose...I believe it is 30r14...methinks. I researched it and it said it exceeds the 30r9 spec, and is 225 working pressure, and for use with all fuels, alcohol and corn / ethanol, etc. bought it at o'reileys

Yup, all your smog stuff behind your pump has been removed. As long as it's capped behind the passenger head, then you'll be ok. I would just remove the Air Pump and Belt. Get the short belt to run your mechanical fan. There are posts out there to give you an idea of the length, there are two sizes, get both and return the one that doesn't fit. Ask me how I know this.
