faster than a SS
Well I had the chance to see how fast the new Camaro SS was yesterday. Turs out not fast enough. A young kid decided to test my 928s4, coming off a red light on a rolling start he tried me found out the old car was no pushover...after the start the 928 pulled a nose-length out on him and gradually pulled away..running about a half mile. After he caught up with me on the next red light he said" that thing is f*&%$ing fast! what you got under the hood?" Of course I said it was stock

Too bad you did not race him on a road course where the 928 really shows it's stuff! Many new cars do have a lot of HP so they are hard to beat in a street race I would think.

I was in the ssss and got passed last week by a smart car.
I was doing 80. I didn't think a smart car would go 85 unless you pushed it off a cliff. Nevertheless, I will now turn in my man card.

Since having my 1984 S, about the only car that I really "raced", was a Caddy STS. Do not know the year, model, or engine size, but, I took him by a couple car lengths......I had to shut the A/C off, though. LOL

I raced one car once. An Impalla SS. He must have had a supercharger or something. He drove away from me like I slammed on the brakes.. that was the end of me street racing

Automatic was probably an advantage for the SS driver. As much as I hate to admit it, the most skillful humans can no longer compete with a modern slushbox.

fast
My father-in law just bought a RS v6 camaro, has over 300 hp but its not fast?? I think they weigh over 4000lbs,much like most new cars they are just too heavy. I think people today are deluded as to what "fast" really is.

Thats the problem with most American muscle cars. What good is 300hp when your car weighs two and a half tons? At 3,000lbs my '84 928S Auto with a little over 240hp has outrun many American muscle cars with over 300hp. I know people refuse to believe it, but I even tore up an Acura NSX in a race from a red light and he never caught me. I think knowing how to drag race, and knowing the capability of the car is part of it. Recently I raced my friend in his 2008 Cayman S. He tried to shift his car with the paddle shift the first time and I beat him. The second time he let the car shift itself and he beat me pretty badly. It was still a blast.

I absolutely agree with the above. Learned just how much an increase in quickness lightening a Porsche will bring a decade ago. My Carrera is pretty light (2500) and that 300 lb loss was the best tune up it could ever have had. Tuned the suspension too.

A lot of people today cannot drive a stick shift. I checked out one of the new Camaro's. Sitting in it felt like I was surrounded by this massive body, same with the Corvette. Not a sporty feel in my opinion.

That's quick and dangerous.
Wonder if he puts the stock rear wheels back on during the week.

Granted weight is becoming an issue with all of these electronic aids. Even the new 911's are not exactly light.
