Newbe with a 928S

Well folks it was a trip. but she runs.. last time it ran was 8 yrs ago. Found the Crank sensor was bad and replaced it. (Whew what a job for someone with big hands) also replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel gauge sender, New fuel lines and New battery, flushed out the tank, I chked the fuses found not only fuel pump fuse blown but the whole relay was missing as well, someone had just jumped it out. stillhas some quirks to iron out the temp gauge and the fuel gauges are not working and the oil gauge is pegged when running I don't know if that is normal?

Oil pressure until hot is usually pegged at idle. Maybe shows pegged all the time if connections are reversed.

My 84's oil pressure gauge is pegged after starting, too. It gravitates to a reasonable reading when warm. Congratulation, on getting it running.

Hey buddy, sounds like you have made some progress since we spoke last. It is possible that the ignition switch might be your culprit....they are a weak link in the system. I just replaced mine recently. Also make sure you have the correct relay. I'm trying to wrap up a couple projects at home, and then my life will return to a little normalcy, I should be able to help you, but you will probably have her going by then....

latest update

Becoming a Saga.. I am almost positive I have a Brain dead car. I think the LH computer module has done "Given up the ghost" Engine will not rev above 3k no temp gauge reading no fuel gauge reading, will not run unless pump relay jumped out. tested all the relays all have power.. switch with Known working relay same thing so It looks like I will open my checkbook once again.. I have seen them used for as little as 250.00 and as high as 1k .Doe;s anyone know how much it would cost to rebuild mine? any help is appreciated..

I believe he said it was an 85 in his previous topic. And I also believe in his other topic he hooked battery voltage up to his car in reverse polarity. Kind of wondering if maybe he smoked the computer (ECU) by doing so?

my 928

My car is an 85 No I never hooked up Batt in rev polarity.. My orig question was why my car had two Neg connections for the batt . the later proved to be some sort of batt disconnect. Apparently my car had either multiple prob to start with or caused by someone disconnecting electronics without dis batt. whatever the reason I had No spark and no fuel pump. I changed out the pump (first one was defective) then the sending unit totally corroded, some one had tried in vain to start car and burned up the starter so that was changed. the Batt was Missing when I purchased it replaced with new batt. finally got it running with jumped out fuel pump relay, engine will not spin up past 3k I have No temp gauge or fuel gauge readings while running, Now I think the LH computer is bad. I am tring to find out if it pays to buy a used computer or have mine rebuilt. I found some on E bait. pricing from 250. to 1k

Thanks for the clarification. Must have read your other post wrong, anyway, when you probe around in the terminals for the fuel pump relay with a testlight...what do you come up with? I do not have a wiring diagram for a 928, but I would assume there are a couple hot wires and one running to the pump...and then one that is the ground circuit for the relay (which is probably controlled by the computer). If it is an issue of having no ground circuit when needed, I'd say look into the computer.

As far as getting the computer rebuilt...I'm not sure who would be able to do that. You sure seem to have a boatload of electrical issues, not sure if all of them could be computer related. Good luck, whichever way you go with the computer. Wish I could be of more help, but without laying my handson it...it's just darn difficult figuring these electrical problems out.

Jagawar,
Are there any 928 owners in your area? Find someone in your area with an 85-86.5 and ask if they will try your computer in their car. If it starts and runs fine, you will know it's not your computer, but instead something else. Do not try their computer in your car since it could muck up their computer.

John Speake can rebuild your computer (JDSPorsche.com)
or
Rich at info@electronikrepair.com

Do not use Specialized Repair in Florida. Bad mojo experiences there.

LH 2.2 rarely fails, as some have said if you some thing wrong in your car wiring etc. any replacement brain you plug in could insta poof. Test your brain in another car or send it out for testing.
