1997 993 stalling problem

I took the 993 out for the first time in a month. Right off the bat it stalled at the first traffic light. Then again every time I came to a stop. It would only stay running if I kept my right heel on the throttle as I came to a stop. It would start right back up, and idle pretty good. It's on a deceleration stop and you push the clutch in as you come to a hault. NO check engine light is on. This went on for about a 25 miles road trip. Any thoughts?

Clean your ICV (Idle Control Valve)?

Do you have a LWF? If so, leave the AC on to raise the idle.

single mass 'light weight flywheel' as opposed to the stock dual mass and very heavy flywheel.

I agree w/ Don, clean the ICV, it's easy enough to do. also check for vacuum leaks, I had one on the '95 engines that would cause the stalling you describe but only when AC was on. Repaired the leak and never had another problem.

O sensors can cause cold stalling but that doesn't sound like your issue.

I replied to your identical Rennlist post but again...

Have you disconnected your battery recently?

That might be the cause. I just went through the same thing and it was caused by my having disconnected the battery. The good news is that it'll fix itself if so.

Paul.

Matter of fact, yes, it was right after I took the battery out for a full recharge and re installed it. I'll check the other ideas also, Thanks guys.

1+ on ISV.

But be very careful when cleaning it, you can damage the electric component inside. If that happens get ready to buy a new one!!

It happened to me!!!

Rick:

If the problem was caused by disconnecting the battery, you need to drive car car so it can 're-set' its self. Worked for me!

Paul.
