Difference in ECM's between tip and manual trans

Would anyone know if there's a difference in ECM between manual cars and tiptronic cars? Just want to know if they can work either way. Thanks.

no difference - there is a coding plug that gets installed onto the DME harness to tell the DME whether the car is stick or tip.

How about a NoBadDays DualChip for 964 or '95 993

Thanks for the information. Is there any way to swap this coding plug? Reason I ask is I am doing a conversion from tiptronic to manual, and wanted to know if I needed to swap the ECM's.

For the 964 DME it is pretty straight forward. Install the 2-pin jumper for Tiptronic maps and remove it for manual transmission. In essence different map sets are chosen by this jumper.

For the 993 55-pin it's done by the harness but essentially the same idea. If the map selector pin is connected to GND the DME is coded for a Tiptronic configuration, if left open it's coded for a manual transmission.

What version DME are you dealing with?

I'm fairly new to Porsche. I assume the DME relay would be in the fuse panel at the front of the vehicle. The car is a 91 964. Would you happen to know where this 2 pin bridge might be.? Thank you.

just to add a few details
the 993 Motronic 2.1 55 pin DME uses pin 44 to code for tip, this is not used on a manual
other tip specific pins in this are pin 42 and 52 these are not used on a manual trans car.

The DME (or ECU) is mounted to a metal bracket upside down under the driver's seat. There is a big 55-pin connector going into it. And on the wiring harness close to that connector are two flying plug receptacles. One is 2-pin (tip vs. manual) and the other is a three-pin for country coding (O2 sensor and maps).

You might have to remove the drivers seat to gain access or you might slide it all the way back and see if you can get there.

That's only for 964, 993 is different it does have the variant coding but it's buried in the harness and not as accessible.
