Unknown sensor

This sensor or switch was dangling on its wire down on the passenger side of the engine on a 99 996. What is it and where does it go?

It is probably number 4 temperature sensor in this picture. On my 2005 C2S, it controls the engine compartment fan.

Temp Sensor as mentioned above. If you've noticed your fan running overtime, its because this sensor is dangling out closer to exhaust heat.

Easy fix

If the grommet is still in the manifold take it out and put it on the sensor before you try to push it through. If you leave it on the manifold you will push the grommet through and it will land on the dark side of the moon.
