I installed my Isaac Link mounts-Epoxy Method
I got my mounts on last night. After marking, I used the Dremel with a flap wheel to remove the gel coat. The epoxy sure "kicks" pretty quick. Make sure you only do one batch (1/2 the syringe) at a time per the directions. I used some white silicon to clean fill in the joint. I need to clean it up a bit after it dries. A fairly painless project.
I also threw on a couple of pinstripe accents on the chin bar to match my decal at the back... ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thanks. Now, I can't wait to the track to try it out....err....wear it. I guess trying it out wouldn't be a good thing!
Truthfully, it will be interesting to see how it feels under use.

Looks good! Please post your experiences with the ISSAC's device after you've used it a few times. There are a number of us looking to invest in a HANS/ISSAC's type device and I'd love to hear more opinions.

Takes a couple of times to get used to getting the pins in by yourself - Just give yourself an extra 5 minutes the first time, and have a helper to guide you. Then it starts to become somewhat natural. Tom P.S.: I used screws to mount to the helmet. Worked out just fine. T ![]()

ozz - I was considering getting the SRS G-Force system, but in the end, I chose the R3 H&N device. Just had the anchors mounted in the helmet - will be getting the rest of the setup done soon.
BTW: Ed Hughes - I've go the same helmet! ![]() -Z.

Ok - what were the factors that made you choose that over the G-Force system?

Ozz,
I have an Isaac Link, screwed in mounting, and you're welcome to check it out. I've used it for 3-4 event days and have been happy. When you first get in it seems restrictive, but once on the track you almost forgot it was there. I added a wide view mirror for extra viewing area. The only issue I have is reading the gauges I installed down in the console. John

Hi Z Man,
I'm using the SRS1 and really like it. My feeling is that it's the best of both worlds. Allows almost unrestricted side to side movemment but stops your heads forward movement on the spine in the event of an accident. (Haven't had one yet and hope I won't) Like the Issac and the Hans it does give you some neck muscle relief in high speed, high g force corners. I've reviewed all the available data I could find and believe that the Issac, Hans and Gforce (and several others like the Simpson and the Wright device) will all do the same thing in the event of an accident. I do not believe all the BS from Hans and/or Issac that their devices are the only ones that will work. I found the Gforce gives me the greatest visibility as a result of being able to move my head side to side and is therefore the most likely to help me avoid the accident in the first place. (The old ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure theory). Just my 2 cents worth. Randy |

One vote for Hans
Hey Chris,
I would highly recommend a Hans device. I would be happy to let you try mine out. The helmet mounts are easy to install on your helmet. I have found it comfortable and feel safer with it. Your seat and harness mount need to be correct for it to work properly. Jeff |

![]() Here were some of the factors that influenced my decision: 1. I have been asked to be a DE instructor in my PCA region this year. The R3 is independant of any harness setup. The HANS, Isaac and G-Force SRS are. So for instructors, I believe the only two choices (if they want H&N protection when riding with a newbie with stock seatbelts) is the R3, and possibly the Hutchens device. 2. The R3 attaches to the body. Thus, if my body moves somewhere, I would want my neck to be in close proximity of my body, NOT the H&N device or the harnesses. 3. The R3 is SFI certified. This brought a lot of debate on the Rennlist thread. Still, I feel SFI certificaiton means there is some standards that are met. 4. The data supplied by the makers of R3 (albeit subjective) shows that the R3 is effective in reducing G-loads to the neck, 5. Ingress and egress - the R3 is an easy device to 'live with.' Entering and exiting from a racecar is simple. 6. One of the R3 sales guys is an active member in my PCA region and supports our club by advertising in our monthly publication. Note: that's not my biggest reason, but it is an influencing factor. 7. I won a $150 off coupon at our annual charity auction for an R3. (But I had already decided on getting this unit over the others. Why did I choose an R3 over a G-Force SRS-1, you may be asking? I feel the R3 is a better unit - their tests have shown that while both the SRS-1 and the R3 met or exceeded the SFI standards, the R3 seemed to offer better protection. One thing I learned in the Rennlist thread is that H&N systems are a very subjective matter - it is a relatively new safety item, and the whole venue is evolving year to year. -Z-man.

Z-man's point #1 is a HUGE consideration for me. I want something that will work in student's cars too. Frankly, a lot of the cars I've instructed in are faster than mine (chipped out turbos, huge engines, etc.) and have stock belts.
Anyway, the flexibility to be worn in other cars is nice. The results don't seem to give much support to the Hutchens device. What about the Hutchens II? |
