So I rattle canned the car last Jan semi-flat black. Asked some folks online to photochop a couple paint schemes that I thought might look good, what do you guys think???
Pick one # please. I guess just respond, I don't see a poll option on this forum.

#4 Simple, and menacing in that olive drab/black Wehrmacht sort of way

#1 followed closely by #2.
Black on the side looks much cleaner IMHO!

I'd say #1 or #2, too. And if you keep it rattle-canned in those areas where you're more likely to get rash/damage, touch-ups and repairs will be a breeze.

I thought the black hood might help reduce glare.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies! So far at both work and a couple other forums #2 has been very strong (around 50% of all replies go to that) with a strong second to #1.
Then the guy that photochopped those for me sent me this... I asked about an inversion on #4 and then he up and added this. (I thought the colors were too dark against each other to begin with) ![]() So now I am even more torn, but I am diggin' the top right one, or use #1 with the lighter shade of green and the same stripe. As for glare, I agree about being concerned. I was going to stay semi-gloss at the most to keep that down. I may just paint it flat army green and buff it for a little luster but low glare... the idea of a lighter color means less heat absorption into the cabin too. edit - I like the orange too, and the red... the paint can be a bit loud since the car is loud hahaha. good to see you back around Jack.

Are you going for a military rat rod look?
Your belt line location is perfect, the split looks good. Yes on a bold accent color for the belt line. A satin black on the sides is great, if it saves you body prep the better. Dark colors on the sides around the rockers makes the car look lower. Now the camo green on top... I like green great color at a brown desert track, really shows up. Could photo shop a couple more choices? Maybe some colors (less drab) in place of the olive green. Look at some of the solid early 911 colors too. Viper green, blood orange... Try a Kawasaki green in place of the olive green? |

#1 for sure, #2 second best. I like the seperating line too, but would pick a complimentary color, maybe a grey or the opposite #1/#2 color.

As for going with lighter hues of green on the top like #1 and #2, putting a parting line doesn't look so great IMO. Here is one with the lightest (#2) and the red stripe (everyone seemed to like the red stripe best around work/friends) ![]() I figured the two dark colors would wash out and the stripe helps a ton with that. But I don't like it with lighter colors (even if the stripe was darker/toned down a bit). Someone else mentioned Kawasaki green too... that would be "bold" for sure, but I do like military tones for sure. I was ratrodding car models as a kid before I ever knew what rat rods were and my friends thought I was lame hahahaha - who'da thunk it would be so freakin' popular now! Even so, I am still kinda set on the semi-flat or flat greens. Will keep glare down too. At a car show yesterday (I had seen this car before) this kid has a gutted Audi, Krylon camo green with black wheels and a flat red star on top and it looks pretty cool, but just shows how lame the scheme is getting at the same time. Anyway, point is the flat red looked good and maybe a flat red separation stripe would work well. We'll see was the local FLAPS has for Krylon greens and go from there ![]() Chris - the guy that has photochopped this stuff for me sent one with a flat silver stripe too and I like it a lot. My fav stripe for "clean" look so far is the top right one (kinda beige) and for "loud" I like the orange. All in all I may go lighter color with no stripe since I only have to tape on line on the car :lazy smiley here: edit little update as to the overall votes in various polls I have set up between boards, work, and friends. #1 - 43 #2 - 69 #3 - 16 #4 - 18 As of this post it looks like, in general, everyone likes #2. Many times folks have said either 1 or 2 so those were left out since it wasn't definite, but just goes to show those are the two that are hard to pick. I am on the fence. If I intend to go to the hassle of putting a parting stripe, it will be dark green. If not, whatever Krylon offers in semi-flat that is close to 1 or 2

only had one choice for Krylon in the end
OK, hit Advanced Auto and semi-flat black was on sale!! Bought every can  and checked out all the paints. Krylon really only had one green I would want, and it is camouflage green that us ultra-flat. The camera wasn't doing the best job in the house tonight but here is what I am going to be using (looks a bit like #1 and #4 had a kid - the cap is just slightly darker than #1 but I bet it turns out darker in reality, more like the green with the striped images).
![]() They have an ultra-flat beige too that I could use to stripe it like stripe top right ![]() And here you can see on the rear fender why I rattle can the car v. pay real $$ to have it painted nicely....

I think it looks mean just the way it is.
![]() The black is good with the targa top. Just paint a big Iron cross outlined in white like an FW-190. ![]() It would be killer!

I have a friend that does stickers for all sorts of applications including car stuff so I was going to find nose art and ask him to make a nice, thick sticker for both sides, but the pinups seemed rather lame. He should be able to make either a see thru with white accents to get the look of the wings on this pic or just make the 2-tone I mentioned. Need to call him. Check the wings... a nice thick sticker will take a lot of rock chips v. paint and would be easy to replace periodically.

I have a book about the development and evolution of the FW-190. It has a whole lot of pages of markings from real aircraft, along with stories about the pilot or Jagdgruppe. Let me know a general idea of what you want for a graphic, and I will see if I can find something.
I like the Adlerfluegel on the top aircraft. ![]() Just ignore the fact that the FW-190 used a BMW engine. Porsche wasn't in that business at the time, or they would have used his engine. At least it's luftgekuehlt.

see how the cross is behind the cockpit on the sides near the rear, I was thinking about mimicking that placement with my protective stickers. So it would be something like this placement roughly
![]() not necessarily that big.. I dunno how it looks on the painted car (big might be cool on a solid color side v. mis-matched coloring). BUT, SEE THAT DRAGON NOSE ART! That might be something I steal for the front fender in flat red, or instead put that in place of the rock guard and use the cross on the hood (since it will contrast the green) and maybe on the wing. Oooohhh, now I am starting to like that idea.... I saw one with a red chicken on it and thought... ummm... no but the dragon could be cool for sure. Then maybe refer to the WF 190 somewhere (might be cool to do a number scheme as 190).I was going for the tank theme as I called the car my main battle tank 914 V8 (MBT-8 914) since it came in at 2,650lbs, and was going to put block letters on the rear with stencils to name it such since it is like a tank by 914 weight standards, but I like the idea of a fast fighter aircraft theme now since I have a monster wing and good HP/wt ratio. I dunno!! Too many ideas.... brain overload.... aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!

If your sticker guy can do these, I would buy a couple (small sizes)

It's funny that we have similar tastes in graphics, because my car is the polar opposite of yours. Mine is a white 2000 pound 911.
![]() ![]() Great minds think alike. Your car is really cool

Hey, how's about this as a dividing stripe? (the bottom aircraft)
You liked the dragon before. I would not go so wavy and might do red only. ![]() please pardon the crooked scan job

yeah, I will call the guy and see what sorta favor he is willing to do for me
I used to help a lot with his roundy-round car, but stickers are his biz and I know there is an opportunity cost to favors, but I will see if he can quote those stickers for you as well. You need to add some weight to that car hahahaha. You're laggin' I was going to paint the car semi-flat white originally but ended up coin tossing the black and it literally was so hard to pick it came down to a quarter. The white would have worked better with rock chips but the black was more menacing. So I was going to go flat white on the top as the 50/50 split but then the green shades looked better, so here I am with the choices above.Do you happen to have a closeup or better shot of the red dragon?? edit - I see you posted just before my reply... the snake is cool but would take talent/skill to pull of hahaha. I need a sticker to smack on and that is as good as I get with that.
