Headlights

Gathered my parts for my Xenon conversion. Using the A8 headlight system and will adapt them into a set up 7" standard type round headlights. I will use the H7 based highbeams for a set of lights that will be in the bumper.

Headers

Worked on my Audi V8 headers for my 924 I still need two 3 to 2.5 reducers. they are just primed right now to keep some of the elements off the metal. They turned out pretty nice for mocking up on the car and then finishing off in my driveway. I used a header kit from Summit, then sliced the flanges off the stock A8 manifolds. They are not prefect. But will certainly do the job I need them to do.

Update

I was able to do a little bit of work on my 924. I have the steering wheel and column set where I want. It will be electronically controlled for adjustment. Also gave my 924 a bit of a clean up after 5 years. Removed the 4 fog lights I had mounted to the bumper as well. going with a different idea for them. I will be Welding in brackets tomorrow to hard mount the steering column in place then I can work on the Brake and Clutch pedal.

Update

Made some good progress on my 924 V8 swap today. Pedal placement is set with some temp brackets, Grafted the 924 and A8 steering rods together and was able to mount the A8 steering column in with bolts. I still need to make the bracket supports and weld everything in.

Used a Power probe ad sent the steering column all the way in. has about 3.5 inches or so of travel.

Last update for now

Made a bit more progress on my 924 Audi V8. Pedal box is tacked in place, and steering column is tacked in place. Very happy with the placement and location. I am out of time for this period, I will be back in around 12 days to continue working on her. Just have to head back to Edwards AFB to finish off the rest of my Separation from active duty.

Thanks man. I have not not. She has been at my Dad's ever since the build began. That is honestly something I never thought of doing.

Progress!

Got some more good progress done on my swap.
Pedal box is all set up and welded.
Steering column is in and all welded.
Put the Instrument cluster in place just for fun to see how it looks.
Put the intake manifold in place and spaced up since I needed to flip is 180 degrees from the normal set up. I rotated the throttle body as well to clear the hood. I need to have a 10mm space made for the throttle body to intake. really happy with it all!

Update ^_^

More good progress today on my 924 Audi V8.
Finished getting my brake pedal box tacked in place. Need to make a lid for it next. Put the coolant reservoir in plan where I want to set it up.battery is going into the drivers side cubby hole.
Test fitted my A8 instrument cluster into the 924 dash. Fit great after I cut material away lol. Reason for using all the A8 stuff like whole steering column, steering wheel and cluster is I have to complete interior, exterior and engine harness from the A8 I got the engine from. Will make the wiring a lot smoother on install VS trying to match up all the 80s wiring to the newer 2000s wiring. A8 steering wheel will either be blank or might make my own special emblem for it.

Harness

More good progress on 924 4.2L. Engine harness laid out and made a neat little metal lid for it so it can be removed.

Update

Hope you all have a good weekend ahead of you. Got a bit more knocked out pn my 924 4.2L.
I was going to use the A8 coolant reservoir, but was far to tall for everywhere. So I got a hold of the 2.8L ones and it fits perfectly. Also sectioned off the giant harness down to engine, Fuse box. Relays, instrument cluster and power. Recieved my intake spacers from 034motorsports and they fit perfect. *normally meant for the 1.8t but the 1.8t and 4.2l basically use the same head* I still have a lot to do and a lot of cleaning 😂

Cleaning and fitting

Accomplished some Items . Used some zip ties to put my Radiator in place to check all my clearances needed with my Large cooling fan and shroud. I might go with a different style, but will see. I will be getting a different AC condenser. The one I ordered in was no where near up to standards, Warped and bowed terrible. I also Pulled everything out of the car and took parts stock of everything and got rid of the junk parts that had be stored for no reason lol.

Zero Rust Coating

Did not do anything to heavy today for my 924 4.2L swap. Went through and cleaned up behind the firewall a bit and look car of some issues. Then Zero Rust coated all the bare metal. Once it cures I will be seam sealing the weld joint and then painted it all the body paint color which is Platinum metallic. I will be working on my Radiator shelf tomorrow and oil pan design.

Headers are basically done. Set up mu 3" to 2.5" reducers and welded on Vbands. Next going to strip them down and smooth everything out before sending them off for Jet hot coating.

Thread taped the oil feed and return ports that went to the old style Water to oil cooler/filter housing. Going with a External filter and cooler with a thermostat inline post filter so on colder days the oil will remain warmer longer in the engine.

Fitted my Aluminum flywheel and clutch set up. Needed to shave a little of the inside of the 931 bellhousing and a little off the cast edges of the LUK pressure plate. Now it fits great.
Engine is back in the car as well. Once my Low profile Throw out bearing arrives I will pull the engine back out and install the bearing.
