Audi V8 in a 924.

Hi All,
I am currently working on swapping a Audi 4.2 V8 into my 82
Currently working on getting everything squared in place then building engine mounts and Oil pan.

924.

Wow! Awesome stuff. I "think" you'll need a bigger or an additional radiator though. The RS4 I had a few years ago got up to operating temperature within like a minute after I started it and always seem to have a great amount of heat up in that area under the hood.

Thanks Jadewombat its been a fun project so far! I was thinking of the heat, so I went with of a triple core 26x19 radiator. also using a 19" dual speed fan. ^_^

If the fans are running all the time and you find you need more cooling, maybe some downward scoops in the hood. It would also improve downforce on the front end.

The Dodge Hellcats use this also. They made street cars that are made to run flat-out for a full 20 minutes.

This green 911 is/was on here from a few years ago and the owner fabricated the downward scoop. I've seen similar on 944s also.

What year V8 is it? ABH/ABZ?
Curious what clutch fly wheel combination you were planning to use

Hi Crave, nothing new yet, I have not been able to go up and work on her. I will be going this weekend, so ill have updates then.
I will be using the duel mass flywheel and pressure plate from the 2.7T Audi, then a Mazda/Ford 2.3L turbo clutch disk. Year engine is 2001 ABH If not mistaken. I will double check that number when I go home. Engine was pulled from a A8L with everything on it, paid $900 shipped.

Nice. That should be an AUX engine, I did not know they might fit the chassis. I have 2 D2 Audis, great cars. You can get a whole car with a dead trans for $1000 or so and sell a bunch of parts to recoup costs. The engines are pretty robust although can get carboned up, maybe due to cheap gas.

The stock ECU is mated to the cluster and pared with the ignition keys so you may have to deal with the immobilizer if you are running the stock ECU.

Was looking over my paper work, yes, AUX is the correct code, After I get everything put into place I will be rebuilding the top end and new rod bearings.

ECU is already been reworked, so the VAG/IMO systems and the ties to the Auto trans have been removed.
Thank you for the information, If i blow this engine up I will give you a call ^_^

Will the bell housing bolt straight up to the 924 Torque Tube? They look compatible...but what kind of bellhousing is on the back of the V-8? Is that the one off of the 924 engine?

Hi, The Bellhousing is from a 924 turbo, with a Audi V-6 Spacer welded to it so i have more bolt holes to fit to.

You are 100% correct, the stock torque tube is coming out and a 944 one in going in. I have a plan to turn it slightly to allow the V8 to sit flat.

Believe it our not, yes. ^_^. I am having an Oil pan CnC out of Aluminum. to aid in the clearance.
