This one just does not pass the smell test. Anyone with a real car would be very open to prove that its the real thing so that it brought the most money at auction. He is fighting it and that tells a lot...

Sometimes these things get to be like shooting fish in a barrel - like the thread last year with the guy who claimed to have the 'werks' rally car - and that takes a lot of the fun out of it.

Take a look at the VIN plates below. Top is the eBay RS, bottom is the Japan 406 RS plate and is identical to all early car plates. Forget about being able to read the numbers - this isn't even the correct plate. Note the 4 rows of boxes in which numbers can be stamped. The eBay plate has 3 rows of boxes!? The lower righthand box is always blank on all early cars. The eBay plate has something stamped in that box.

I guess I could go on and point out the differences in rivet size, but what's the point?
