Hey Chris, I appreciate your interest in all of this, but shouldn't you be babysitting your pumps or sandbagging or something?

I'm just waiting for the crest at 1pm...
So far still dry, but I can see the water from the second floor in places that it doesn't belong. And I doubt this seller created this car, I think he is just not being upfront about the real provenance.

Greg may have nailed it, "seller"is reading this thread. Gotta admit though, I too had to check in first thing. 1st cup of joe in hand, disappointed there is no report from our "CSI" guys.

$105,000 and the reserve is still not met? If the car was real what would the value be?

A good driver is ~$140,000 up to $250,000+ for a concours and completely documented car.

Well cbeers and I looked at the RS.
I was quite shocked at the results. There are some details that I would like to ask to someone who knows more in regards to some minor details which we will get to. Later. But where we go…… First he did not let us take any pics of the car. And stated almost immediately, I have no idea why. So no pics sorry. Second I did ask why he did not have pics of the vin, engine number, and trans number posted. He felt if he did people would claim they were not recent. Cbeers jumped in with the comment "we can take care of that we'll photograph them and place todays paper next to it!" Well he did not like that idea either. So now comes the interesting part. The front plate had the correct number. 911 360 0406. It did have the KG not the AG. I then looked at the Engine number. Stars were placed in front of the first digit and after the last. The Number was 6630400. There were no signs of scratches grinding ect to the area. Hold on more to come……

Too bad you coudn't get under the car and check the date stamp of the 7R case. It is pretty easy to restamp a blank (replacement) case. The same holds true for the VIN plate in the trunk. There are still NOS VIN (KG version) plates for sale if you know here to look.

The Transmission was a little harder to get to.
He made difficult because he never was farther than 2 feet away. Forgot my flashlight but he let me borrow one. Crawled under could read the last three but no more the angle and height made it a tight fit. So the last numbers were 399 Brakes are not original from a tubo. Rear sway bar was adjustable. Adjustable like the smartracing bar but was not one of those . The bottom arm of the swaybar had the holes but was straight not angled. He had another 911 motor in the garage that he said was another RS Motor that he drove in the car so that he would not put any miles on the original. The lightweight seats claimed to be out of an RSR plastic backs cloth fronts metal turn screws to adjust on the sides.

Never got to try out the guage of the metal. though.
The car was not CA Registered either. had the import papers from Germany. But not really given the chance to read or look at it in detail.

Still sounds fishy if he wouldn't let you photograph it to check authenticity. I would expect any reliable art collector or Ph.D to understand that. If he has a Ph.D he understands considerably the need to authenticate any findings to validate it's validity.

The duck tail.
I guess was aluminum frame? since I have never really looked at the frame in detail of one alike I could not tell you. but the metal was very light weight.

It sounds like he's got a pretty decent replica. The ducktail has an alloy base, the numbers are stamped without grind or fill marks, he's got correct looking seats, and a correct looking motor (maybe it’s even a real 911/83).
You should have just started taking pictures of the trunk VIN plate… what could he have done?! He's doing a good job but the truth will come out. |

So is it at all possible that this is the "REAL" car and the other one is a fraud? By real, I mean #406.
