What are the most/least desirable colors for a 3.2 911?

In your opinion, can you make a list of the most desired to least desired colors in the used Carrera 3.2 911 marketplace?

I know black, red, and silver are very common.
White seems next...
I have seen deep blue, gold/champagne, garnet maroon, etc.

Personally, for me:
  1. Dark blue (What is the official name?)
  2. Maroon
  3. Silver (Nice, just common)
  4. Dark Green (very vintage/Euro)
  5. White (Seems to be "in" again)
  6. Black
  7. Yellow or Neon Green (too exotic/custom for my conservative tastes)
  8. Red (I will not drive a red "midlife crisis" car)

But, what is the general marketplace preference (not yours) for 3.2 Carrera's?
(Not the general auto market)

My preference in terms of shall we say a standard color, is white, Carrera or otherwise. Or shall we say Porsche GP white.

My preference itself doesn't matter to you, as you state. However as a data point, my experience has been when GP white turns up even on a Porsche tractor, it moves reasonably quick.

Caveat: Unless of course the seller is a defective dildo from Long Island posting a certain GP white 928 for sale, and says "PM me", you do, but never hear back from the defective dildo. Then GP white doesn't move as quick as evidenced from a certain GP white 928 for sale in Long Island which is supposedly still "for sale". By a defective dildo I may add....

I would conclude that GP white (unless the seller is a dildo from Long Island trying to sell a GP white Porsche 928, which is BTW not the OP) is a popular color. Not the most popular mind you, but worth ranking.

1. Any Green
2. Yellow
3. Any Blue
Below that anything not White, Guards Red, Black, or Silver in no particular order.
Below that in order:
Silver
White
Black
Guards Red

Also, I think interior color plays a big part of it. A Silver, White, or Black car with red or burgundy interior moves them up on my list a bit.

I personally would not buy any car with a Wine color interior! It doesn 't matter if it's unique!

My vote for least desired is red, it got a real bad rap from the mid life crisis crowd.
Second least is purple I don't know why, because I like purple, just not on a car.
Third is black, but for practical reasons.

I used to not like the poo colors but poo is good again.

Colors

I have an original Porsche color brochure from 1989. There were seven standard colors and ten special colors offered. Standard included black, linen gray, apricot beige, guards red, murano green, dark blue and grand prix white. Special colors included Baltic blue, diamond blue, stone gray, slate grey, silver, velvet red, linen gray, forest green, cognac brown, and coral. All special colors were metallic. Most cars sold were likely the standard colors you mentioned.

I uploaded a picture of a 86 coupe I just bought, red was not my first choice but the car has 27,000 miles and is very nice. The other car is my 08 RS I bought new and sold about 15 months ago. It is white which in my opinion was one of the best colors for this particular car.

Agreed,

I had a black 964 WTL with full leather turquise interior a couple of years ago. i got it cheaper because of the funkyness. Would probably have commanded a premium today.

Times changes.

Lets just admit that Porsche colors are fashion x rarity.

In the marketplace today, it seems that Red has a terrible rep.

However, I think this will be a trend.

Historically, Guards Red was incredibly popular, hence why there are many red cars - I think there's a solid chance that the red cars will come back around into popularity.

I for one love Guards Red. Not because my car is red per se, but more because I'm a child of the 80's, and a Guards Red 3.2 911 is the quintessential Porsche for me. It's the one that I grew up with on my wall, and the color I've always wanted.

That being said, I think red over a black interior is rather boring. The red over tan (or in my case, cork) does much more for me - IMO it's a very pretty color combo.

I agree on Guards Red. I posted an ad on Pelican and Panorama "looking for a 87-89 Coupe, any color other than red or black". Had a few responses, most were red or black.
Colors other than red or black seem to bring more money. (I personally don't like Cassis Red at any price)
I ended up with a Red 89 3.2 coupe. It was close to me, in exc. condition, good records and the price was fair.

In the end, other factors overruled color on my purchase.

As many cars get repainted in the "cool" colors the boring colers will have their revival.

Be happy with G red!

Condition trumps color... I'm on my 3rd GR car and it's not my first choice.

Guards Red is iconic. Remember that we're on an enthusiast forum and probably get overloaded seeing GR cars. Hardly the same in real life where I bet most are thrilled to see any nice air cooled 911 in the wild.

Ae we saying that being the "mid-life crisis guy with the red 911" is a bad thing?

This is the best attitude to have. Right now Guards (India) Red is out of favor so it's a 10-12% discount to other colors.

If you're not planning to sell soon, you can enjoy more car for less money...

I bought an '85 Carrera 3 years ago for $9500 because it was GR with gold BBS wheels. A few minutes with a rattle can and the gold was gone and the car worth +$2000. :-)

Miles and overall condition of the $9500 '85?
Seems like a steal.

Very good condition, no records 227K miles. It was an eBay auction car that topped out at $7700... Carrera values were way lower only 3 years ago.

I like GR, my CGT clone is sorta that color (faded!). Here's my high mileage rust free '85 in blue for $13K.
