Porsche porn: Moses' chariot gets some "Evil" touches
Well, Moses (Mark ) brought his '84 Carrera Targa with 3.6 down to us at TRE for some much needed mods and upgrades to the car. The power is great, with the 993 varioram 3.6, but on my initial test drive, it became apparent that it really needed some tighter suspension to deal with the extra power.
In addition, he'd already planned a brake upgrade, and some beautiful seats just like the ones Jack O. has in BBII. Here are some pics I took during the project: The front brakes, reinforced struts with Koni Sport external adjustable inserts, control arms modified to accept 993/964 brake deflectors, Smart Racing 23mm front swaybar, Turbo tie-rods, rack spacer kit, 22mm torsion bars, and Elephant Racing Poly-bronze control arm bearings. Another angle. Here you can see the triangulated reinforcement of the strut housing. Rear swaybar mount reinforcement. I had to do a lot of straightening to get it back in shape before the reinforcement. All better now! Rear shot of the brakes, along with inner monoballs, Koni Sport high pressure gas rear shocks, 28mm torsion bars, and Elephant Racing poly-bronze rear spring-plate bearings. The other side. Here's the Rennline strut brace that ties into the brake booster. This thing did wonders! I drove the car with the new suspension, but no brace. The Targa top creaked and rattled like, well, a Targa. After the brace install, It was tight and quiet. better than I would've expected! More to come:

Tale of the scale. All balanced. Here are the percents. Very nicely weighted car. The difference in handling and braking were staggering. Mark is in for a treat! His car now has basically the same set-up that my old car "Scruffy" has.

Excellent!
Those seats kick azz, I wonder how well they'd fit in my miata? The stock miata seats suck!

Tyson,
Looks like great work, as usual. Regarding the Rennline strut brace in a Targa, will their 2-point brace have a similar effect in quieting a creaking, rattling roof, or is it the 3-point version that will really be more effective? Thanks, Markus |

Nice. This reminds me to get my 914 done, now this the "sorting out" miles are pretty much done. What's the best shop in/near San Diego to corner balance a 914? -Steve |

I like the design of the strut brace, tying into the brake booster instead of drilling into the floor. Can this be used with Elephant Racing's offset camber plate or is the factory set-up required?

Those upgrades probably cost more than what I paid for my whole car. Looks fantastic!

Thanks everyone for the kind words! Projects like this are why I love getting up in the morning and going to work. This is a really great car as a starting point, and now it just plain ROCKS! It reminds me a lot of BB1, (In driving feel and performance) but more comfy, and a Targa.

This brace is the only one that I like better than Chuck Moreland's. (Elephant Racing)

Those upgrade look great, I wish I had the money to do all that to my car. The Rennline brace looks good, what type of brackets are those? They look different than the ones shown in their website.
