Yet Another New 930 Project...

So just yesterday morning I took the totally unexpected leap and became a 930 owner. This particular vehicle is a car I had been familiar with from years ago. I had always lusted after it due to it's incredible acceleration (it was modified).

The car moved from NY to the West coast, and apparently it was not very well cared for sitting outside(?) and being driven only about two hundred miles in the last couple of years. It seems to have had a family of mice take up residence inside, hasn't been cleaned in those 2 years, inside or out, and in general just neglected.

But just last week I found out it was on it's way back to NY, up for sale, and I put the plan in motion and got my ducks in a row. During transport, it looks like they busted up the rear bumper (scraped it both putting it on and off the trailer), and it looks like the transport driver may have sat on the drivers mirror trying to get out of the trailer denting the door pretty badly.

Regardless, the car is here now, in a safe home, and work to restore it has begun... it's getting cleaned up and restored to its former glory. Car was upgraded as a 3.4L dual plug with a TEC-1, and last dyno showed it at 467HP at .85bar at the wheels (still waiting to get all docs).

Not sure if I'm going to take the whole thing apart this winter and paint it, or if I'm just going to put it back together, drive it over the summer, and deal with a complete paint job next winter.

Regardless, next steps:
Clean it inside and out
Order all the missing trim/parts
Change filters, oil, and replace brake fluid
Dress it up- new steering wheel, LED lighting, etc.
Suspension- I think I'm going to get a coilover; recommendations?
Seats, harness bar and harnesses

Purpose is going to be mostly street with as many track events as I can fit in. This was the car I lusted after for 15 years, and she's getting spoiled for xmas. Over the years I've owned both a club sport and then an RS America which I had to sell due to a divorce, but this was my ultimate goal so all is right with the world now.

Welcome to the obsession. You are in the right place. This is a great community that I found last year and there is a great deal of knowledge with all these members.

You have a much better starting platform than I did. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/567389-new-member-930-project.html

Thanks- yes been spending a lot of time here vs anywhere else. Placed an order from Pelican this afternoon for a few items, so if they come in on time I can spend xmas working on the car.

I've been following your thread, and it's looking great CONGRATS. The problem for me is it doesn't NEED that much, so I can't decide if I should just hold off and drive it a season as is, or go ahead and break it down now. If it had come in a bit rougher, the decision would have been simpler...

Congratulations. Looks like a great car.

As others have said. There is a wealth of knowledge on this board, and people are more than willing to help.

Yes- Rochester (way upstate).

My first major project is going to be suspension. On acceleration the front end gets real light. It's still got stock suspension, so I think it can definitely benefit from being stiffer and the front sits a bit high as it is so it can benefit from sitting a bit lower too.

Looking Rebel Racing Coil Over Kits- they were mentioned in another thread. Any experience with These kits?

As for the pimping wheels, they're not bad. Rear tires are brand new 315/35 17s so they're going to stick around for a bit.

Thanks to all. Had conversation with the paint shop today and we decided to "fix" what we have. That means repair and paint the rear bumper, door, and a few minor spots on the hood and front number. Then we would wet sand the whole vehicle and polish/wax since everything seems to be in good shape. Should look a lot better than it does now, and that will leave more budget for other fixes.

Car has custom silver painted gauges (done by NHS) and soon to be illuminated by LEDs and the red wheel is being replaced with black.

Engine is sorted out and back together and will get cleaned up just as soon as it comes back from paint.

Nice Xmas present to yourself, glad you made it full circle with the car you've been lusting. Funny how that works.

Finally got my hands on some of the records, and while it lacks some detail, the major items done in 2001 include:

3.4L Dual Plug Conversion:
Andial Pistons & Cylinders
Carrillo Rods
Competition Engineering Cylinder Head Machine Work
Sport Valve Springs
Crankshaft Rework
964 3.4L Camshaft Grind

Electromotive Engine Management System (TEC1)
New Turbo & Intercooler
G50 Transmission Conversion
R&R Brakes
Bosch Racing Fuel Pump

Work performed by Dumont's in Oklahoma City, OK. I have the original work orders with all parts listed including cost for parts and labor. Total of the 4 pages of service I have the records for is: $38,881

This does not include the headers, exhaust, clutch, and other items that I know were changed out.

I did get name of previous owner- Jim Robinson (in OK) if he is here or anyone knows him. I'd love to try to piece together the rest of the history...

Car is currently getting cleaned up inside and out in order to be road-worthy come Spring. Will post updates as they are available!

Anyone know anything about the TEC1? I've got a serial cable and nothing more to go on. Call and email into Electromotive to determine options.
