The problem with Paul's Eisenstein-esque words of wisdom is, even when using a catch can, one is still venting the crank case & oil tank to atmosphere (where do you think the catch can vents to?????). In order to NOT vent to atmosphere, one would need to vent into the engine's intake (aka: OEM) where the oil vapor will then be combusted.

You are most welcome for the lesson, Paul!

Shocks went in last night without too much drama. Next up is painting the tins.

Paul - definitely need to meet up once I have it running.

So, can someone point me to some links to the process for replacing the airbox with the K&N filter? I know there are other hoses plugged in and want to figure this out before I put my motor in. I've seen some threads about it, but cant find any now!

Any advice out there?

^^^

Jeff, I did it this way -

- crank case/oil tank vent "Y" hose attached to catch can

- vent hose from fuel vapor, charcoal canister in right rear wheel well attached to catch can

- catch can vented to atmosphere via a long hose running from the top of the can and out of the engine bay - hose follows the same path as the a/c refrigerant hoses on the right side. I then secured the end of the hose to the right rear swaybar mount with zip ties. The hose is pointed at the ground (tip just below the swaybar drop link - not THAT tip, Paul) and I cut it at a rearward facing angle in the hope of preventing air from easily rushing into it while driving. I did this because I did not want the vapor from the catch can vented into the engine bay.

- WUR vented to atmosphere - although I like how some people have vented it to the top of the air filter, so I might do that at some point.

Anyone know where this plugs in? I assume it is a brake pad wear indicator, but I can't see where to plug it in and can't find any pics showing where...
Do I need it? Both sides were unplugged already.

it should clip into the pad, if the pad has the slot to accept it (like Ronknees)

Good looking paintwork thar, Jeff. I also spy what looks to be a new, smaller than OEM out diameter, r134a compatible hose - nice (something I still want to do to my a/c system at some point - all new hoses).

Man, Griff is a great guy, and a hilarious poster in the 911 forums - have had some good times cutting up with him in the various, crazy a/c threads over there.

You spied correctly. All new barrier hoses, evaporator, dryer, etc. from Graff. Everything but the rear condenser and the compressor since they are fine.

I'm gonna have cold air this summer!

Turns out, Charlie's shop is like 20 minutes from me, so I went there to pick it up and chatted with him for a while. Great guy!

Got the three rear fuel lines installed last night. Didn't realize I need bushings for the tunnel lines, so I'm waiting until I get the bushings to do the tunnel and front lines.

Started reassembling the motor. Alternator, fan, shroud, engine tins, electrical, etc.

Still lots to put back on.

It's funny, because I took hundreds of pics pulling it apart, but yet I still keep finding things where I say "where does this go?"

Garage
Jeff, you're killing it this winter! Super motivating. I just have to reinstall my headers, redo a cv boot, and adjust my valves and for some reason I walk out to the garage, flip the light on, look at the car for a minute and go back in the house. I've helped out on a few other cars lately but can't look at mine right now.
Thanks for the boost!
