Hey guy's your engine looks great, keep up the good work! Are you guy's working in a heated garage? It's been cold here in the Midwest

Cheers,

Sabeo,

I actually have the engine in the basement were it is warm. Just hope I can find a few strong friends to help get it out.

Installed the headstuds, also got the pistons and cylinders on today! 1/3/09

We're looking to get the long block finished by the end of this week.

Here's some pictures from today...

Hey Scott,

The studs are from Competition Engineering and they are high strength. I have lowered the compression by using thicker cylinder base gaskets and c2 turbo head gaskets per Promotive Engineering specs.

Thanks,

Looking good! What are you doing for the fuel extra fuel requirements? Where did you purchase your turbo kit?
I have my 3.2 torn down and looking at a possible turbo conversion, so its great to see what your doing.

Keep up the good work, Paul

Hey Paul,

Thanks for the comments. I purchased the kit from a former Pelicanite, WYDRYD, it is based on the stage 2 kit from Promotive Engineering. I have a rising rate fuel pressure regulator for the increased fuel requirements. Todd at Promotive said the stock injectors will be good to about 490hp with their chip.

Hey Rick,

A couple more questions for ya if you don't mind me asking.

What piston ring material and make did you go with considering the extra load placed on them from the boost.

What is the thickness of the cylinder base shims/gaskets?

I noticed that there is no ring grove cut into your heads so I'm curious, what head gasket are you using?

What does your compression ratio work out to with the shim and gasket and how high of boost are you going to run?

Hi Paul,

No problems asking questions, I ask a lot also.

Walt at Competition Engineering did all my parts work and I left that up to him, I would have to ask him.

I used .5mm base gaskets and I am using C2 turbo cylinder head gaskets recomended by WYDRYD and confirmed by Promotive. The compression ratio is about 8.8/1. I could run up to .85 bar but I plan on staying around .7 bar for longevity.

Hi Rick,

I've been thinking of going with a Garrett turbo also, what are the specs on yours?

Hey Rick,

I'm sure you guy's have worked out a solution, I'm curious what it is? When adding the thicker cylinder base shim and the head gasket, the distance from the case to the head increases and gape at the sealing surface between the timing chain covers and the heads increases correspondingly.
Are you shaving the cam towers or adding some sort of shim or additional gasket on the covers?
