The Germans are undeniably the source of deep BMW knowledge, I have "gone to the well" many times but the language barrier can be frustrating as evidenced in my thread.

Perhaps I did do it "the hard way" but my goal wasn't to be easy, just less than the $5500 asking price for the US sourced Wossner kit, and that I accomplished quite smartly even with my hiccups

You did it your way, and therefor, by definition, the right way (for you). Other people may make different choices, or even think you did the wrong way, but that's totally irrelevant.

G'day Phil,

Yes I'm thinking of trading the old girl in, my mate has a HP2, I've ridden it and really like it so thinking it will make a much better race bike than my current speedie. I'll take all the good stuff of it and put it on my road speedie and sell the race bike.
I haven't got around to doing the cam mod on my road bike yet but I have everything I need, just need the time and the funds. I'm glad your happy with your mods, Phil's in Japan at the moment skiing.

Cheers
Rob

There's a sarcastic comment from gent on the one thread referring to a poster omg1010 about knowing everything!!! which he doesn't but he knows a man that does
Thanks Chris.

Rob,

suggest you send an email to kurt(at)kurtroesner.de ... This is Kurt Roesner who is the exclusive distributor of the Woessner parts in Germany. Woessner has the pistons, conrods, head gaskets .... If you have a competent company in Australia you can get the cylinders bored and coated locally.

If Kurt does not reply or does not want to help (which I cannot imagine) then please send me a PM and we will find a way how to get the parts to you ...

Cheers
Oliver

Yes that is pretty much the price (plus shipping abroad I would suspect). And thats the price without the cylinders getting bored and coated. Getting the cylinders bored, coated and honed will cost here in Germany around 560 Euros for the pair. Just to give you an idea when you source a company locally. But make sure you use a company with a very good reputation - not a kind of backyard garage who will do it for cheap.

I hear what your saying Oliver, wouldn't risk a backyard job and yes the 1200 includes 200 for shipping and handling which seems a lot.
I was looking to see what an akraprovic exhaust cost here in oz (see below response from importer) so I'll be scratching that off my wish list. I really like the look and sound of the standard muffler so might get some Remus headers and keep it.

Cheers
Rob

Dear Rob,

Above pipe should still be available from Akrapovic in Slovenia. Recommended Retail price in Australia is $6,190.00 including gst. GAS Imports does not deal direct with the public we are wholesale only. The pipe will need to be ordered through your local motorcycle dealer or motorcycle accessory shop.

Regards,

I did a similar thing when I first started racing in 2012, I posted up the journey of a novice jumping into the deep end.

That is a fair price, and pretty much what I paid for the R12S parts a few years back. The shipping was expensive ($250) . When I was doing my big bore project Wossner had an exclusive agreement with Max BMW and my only alternative was to buy their $5500 kit. I tried to purchase the Wossner parts through others in Germany but no luck. If things have changed and someone in the states can buy the Wossner parts direct for $1650 plus shipping, IMHO would be the best way to go, and is about the same price I paid to do my homegrown kit.

Rob,

I think that shipping and handling is expensive but I suppose they use UPS. Using German post would be cheaper. But hey I would not complain. Buying the same stuff here in Germany (Pistons, conrods, head gaskets) would cost me 1100 Euros + 10 Eur shipping. Hence not a big difference.

And with regards to the Akra headers and exhaust I believe both is available from Akra for the HP2S at a whopping Price tag of almost 2800 Euros. You want Akra? Open your wallet!

Brgds

I have been off the forum for a few weeks dealing with other life ****. The price you guys are discussing is very close to what I have paid. To have the 103 pistons, long rods, rod bearings and head gaskets shipped to me in Tampa, FL via UPS I paid $1254 Euro.

I'm jumping onto this thread 7 years after the last post - is there anyone still here?

I have just purchase the big bore BMW R1200 GS/S/ST/RT/R 2006 - 2009 103mm Bore Wossner Racing Piston Set (x2) for my R1200S.

Can I ask - Can i run the standard conrods with these pistons or do I need to purchase race conrods?

I notice some people are buying 128mm conrods to replace their 125mm rods - what am I missing here, surely something else would need to change to accommodate for the extra length......

Thanks in advance.

Scott

I used the wossner pistons and rods, if I remember correctly the rods were just standard.

Hi Scott, you can run the stock rods as long as the wrist pin holes are in the same location relative to the piston deck (top). Wossner had made a high performance “kit” that utilized 3mm longer rods (128mm c-c) to slow down piston speed, and reduce forces towards the cylinder walls. If you have the pistons with the relocated wrist pins you will need the longer rods.
