Camshaft position sensor...

looks like a squirrel chowed on the connector to my camshaft position sensor on the driver side (2008 Cayman). any tips on the best way to get to the sensor wiring into the harness, to splice in a repair?

I can get to the sensor from underneath the lift, but getting to the wiring for the repair will be more of a challenge. wondering if it might be easier from above or through the rear wheel well (as with the coils and plugs).

so far everything else seems to still be in one piece, other than maybe the connector into the oil level sensor. first time for me with squirrels or mice, lol.

As with most sensors, the cam position sensor is a low voltage signal system, so you need to solder in the replacement connector and then cover with heat shrink tubing rather than attempting to use crimp connectors.

Over the years, we have lost count of how many "crimped in" sensor wire repairs we have had to remove and re-solder because the crimp connectors simply are not up to the job. Do it right the first time, you will sleep better.....

thanks! the solder part is a big reason for the question about access, since getting up in there to do surgery from underneath is going to be a PITA. looks like the best bet will be through the rear wheel well, not a ton of fun but also not the end of the world.

There is also new butt connectors that have solder in them so they solder and heat shrink all in one.

for anyone who may have been curious:

the answer to my original question is from above. just pull out the engine cover and the wiring harness to the cam position sensor is literally right there.

as a bonus, the chipmunk appears to have only chowed on the oil level sensor sender where it meets the harness (rather than at the sender), which is also a very easy fix from above. the rest of the harness and the sensors look to be in order.
