Tiptronic Problems?
Hi all...I'm new to the forum and new to the world of Porsche having bought a '99 Boxster S in June.
When in auto mode, the upshift slurs badly as if the clutch was slipping. Also, the gears seem to 'hunt' without any gear change showing on the console indicator - for example, in 5th gear the sound of the engine will rise as if it had changed down to 4th, but the indicator shows 5th. In manual mode, there is some slurring between the gears, but I can lessen than by backing off the throttle a little during the gear change. When coasting, particularly downhill, the engine tries to get to idle mode but stops at ~1,000rpm, resulting in lurching as if the brakes were grabbing. This is a low-mileage car (36,000) that has been serviced every 3,000 miles. Could the transmission oil need changing, and if so is that something I could do myself? I'd appreciate any replies. Cheers.

What do you mean by "serviced" every 3,000 miles? What exactly has been performed?
I imagine the fluid, if original, should be changed, if not for mileage, but for AGE. It is nearly 9 years old. I would start with that first. Also, you may want to search out other local tips and drive them for a comparison of how they feel. Its awkward to put into words the "feelings" you have about your transmission. You might also try a local dealer/shop familiar with the TIP to make sure yours is working satifactorily. Good luck. let us know what you learned!

Thanks for the reply, racer.
When I first got the car, the problem was hardly noticeable. It has definitely worsened recently. From the history, it has had a minor service (by Gemballa) every six months or 5,000km, with a major service every two years. The transmission fluid and Tiptronic oil filter were changed in February this year. I don't know of any Tip specialists here in Hong Kong, so I think I'll bite the bullet and take it to Porsche Hong Kong.
