Porsche Crest Hemi Roadrunner Scissor Lift

Dear Pelicanites

While waiting replies from my 911 T.F. posting http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/542788-scissor-lift-brand.html, I found this one in Toronto.

Anybody got one?

Cheers

J.J.

On it's way

Since I could not find a good used one, I bite the bullet and order the Hemi Roadrunner yesterday. The delivery is schedule for Friday.

I look at different options, including getting one in the US but when you factor the time, gas, warranty/service implication and possible duty as most of them are made in China, this was the best option.

Actually, the hoses and cylinders are made here and the pump in the US and is available in either 110 or 220 volts. The specs are per BendPak MD-6XP but the warranty is double (2 years part/labor).

I’ll post the usual photorama (from unloading to first lift) next week.

Princess Auto now sells four post lifts.

For people that work under a car support solely by a 'Power fist' product.

Well time fly when we are having fun, so I'm a bit behind;

Order on a Tuesday and was delivered on Thursday (a day ahead of schedule).

Good thing the truck had a lift gate, at 800 pounds it's not light. We were 3 (including the driver) and it took about 30 minutes from the truck to the garage floor.

The next day, I spend one hour to turn it around as for a Porsche's you want the cylinders in the front so you have all kind of room at the back to be able to do an engine drop.

My garage ceiling clearance is 106". The car is 48" so at the max lift height of 56", it leave 2". Since the car is a cab, I did not have to remove the garage door opener (it's actually in the car once lifted).

Take about 30 minutes to assemble. Very stable, it can lift 6000 in less then 60 seconds.

Had it up about 10 time in the last 2 weeks.

Did a 5 hours cleanup on the H.E/ & the Cat Plate. I'm 5'7" and there is still head clearance when sitting down on a garage stool.

Best investment since I got the car.

Off the truck

Baldor industrial Motor (USA)

First lift

24 years of neglect

On a rainy Saturday morning

5 hours later

Garage door opener in the car. Yes I did aligned the wheels & caps... Could lift another 12" with the door close

FYI Put some kind of sheet metal under the wheels of your lift. The constant rolling will tear up your concrete.

Thanks, will be done shortly as I'm now converting the garage to a heated garage. That way we can share quality time 3651/4 days a year :

During the winter and can work on her in a cozy surrounding and then have a cold one;

I used to build bigger ones (6000- 150K lbs) and we just used a simple angle iron frame for those to run in.

Will the full length of the transmission/engine assemby clear any lift frame members?

From one of the pics, it doesn't look like it will.

No Glove, no mask... All natural product.

Actually the shot does not show how clean it is... Check http://forums.pelicanparts.com/cleaning-detailing-polishing/550748-best-cleaner-bar-none.html The web site link is after the last photo.

Here is a close up of the Heat Exchanger which are stamp 12/85 (25 years old) which will be for sale soon... SSIs are going to be fitted this winter;

Not directly down. From my previous research, I think it's done at an angle (engine down, moved further back and the transmission clears). I'll check my subscription and find out the relevant post.

On that subject, there is a water based degreaser that I have been using since 1986 on my motorcycles and cars. I've tried a lot of products along the way and none have been as good...not even close.

Facto AT30 is available from Swish Maintenance.

There is a identical product available from Princess Auto that I just came across the other week. It looks the same, smells the same and feels the same. Industrial Degreaser...available in a 4 liter jug or a 20 liter pail.

JJ,

I'm dragging this post up from the past. I'm down to the short straws on buying a scissor lift of some kind and I wanted to ask you a few questions not that you've had this for a while.

1. How has this lift held up? Any regrets purchasing this over other brands you looked at?
2. Did you have to modify the rear cross member for an engine and tranny drop or are you able to slide it out?

Any words of advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Cliff

The lift is holding up perfectly, mind you all the components (pump, motor and the cylinders) are from North America and its assemble in Ontario and its reflected in the price when you compare it to fully Off Shore one.

After the car, this was the best buy. It already paid itself. Last winter project, a full brake job (new; rotors, pad, shoes, lines, caliper pistons and so on) was less then $1K.

From the day you get one, you are only buying parts, no more labor cost.

Yes I had to modified the rear cross member. The are a few version available on the forum (one of them was pretty nice) but the easiest would be to cut the member flush, bolt corner angle at each end and bold those back on the lift. Once required remove it drop the engine/transmission and put it back. It will void the warranty on the frame and should generate some safety debate... Just over engineer the piece.

Yes go for it.

The company I got it from use to ship to the US but stop last year at about the same time a company in the US started to sell one that look exactly the same and claim it is made in the US. Even the price was the same.

JJ

P.S. Cylinders at the front of the car

Thanks so much JJ.

I'm not too far from the LiftSuperstore shop in Oakville. Last I checked, they quoted a huge fee to ship to my house (20 mins down the road). I'll check with them again, otherwise I'll rent a trailer with a liftgate from U-Haul.

I'll have a search on the forum to see some of the mods made by others.

I can't justify the price premium for a Bendpak (currently sitting at $400). I am excited about buying parts and saving on labour - although my wrenching talent runs out pretty quickly, it should dramatically cut down on maintenace $$.

Let's hope my wife sees it that way!

Cheers,

Cliff

Get a truck and a couple of buddy and you are all set.

Google "where are ben pak lift made"!!! so I would definitely not pay a premium for it.

Before I got the lift, I had never wrench on a car... Last year, I dropped the engine, broke some studs, had to do a Time-cert (my first tap ever), installed SSI's and so on.

Got all the usual books and have fun
