I just had hardwood floors installed last week — dogs seem to slide around a little, I’m sure it will scratch and need resanding in 10 years BUT it’s real wood not some fake vinyl stuff ... just my 2c .. Id use vinyl in a rental “maybe” .. but I just hate the way the planks usually lift especially near any wet area :

Snap: Installation is time consuming, and the better stuff has a hard coating that will wear-out even a carbide tipped saw blade.

rrental (page 1) has the right idea. The newer self-adhesive vinyl is pretty damn impressive; and easy to install.

Just to update..
We decided on engineered hardwood. Has the look we're after and makes more sense then ceramic through 1000sq' of common area.
It'll be glue to slab, hopefully we don't have any issues going that route.
I'm sure it'll take a while for our 2 dogs to get use to it but...
Install starts tomorrow, I'm pretty excited to see it go in.
Thanks again for the input

Easy install, feels and looks great, waterproof (I still do not trust it in a bath, but that's just me), and lift time guarantee (Of course, that doesn't mean doggy poo). Comes with a backing that will go directly onto the sub floor. I like it that its thick, not the cheap think stuff. Check it out https://www.homedepot.com/b/Flooring/LifeProof/N-5yc1vZaq7rZets
We went with this stuff, looks great, installer loved it. Cannot report on durability because we just had it installed.

Hopefully they are using Bostik Green Force glue. Pricey, but it’s the best glue. Stops moisture mitigation.

They're using Bostik pro cure..almost seems rubbery when dry/drying.

Didn't realize how time consuming glue down floor was to lay.

I put down Marmoleum. Fantasic wear, easy to clean (no wax) and if you get large spills soaked up within a couple of minutes, no swelling or other problems. If your sub floor is tight and doesn't squeak then the new floating floor shouldn't either. I laid mine over 30 lb. felt, not some foam s╟!t. A sheet of cheap vinyl underlayment flooring is even better.
