Mounted two motorcycle tires today - first time ever. Really not a big deal as long as you follow a few basic principles.
Checked my rims first on the balance stand and both were already very balanced! Will do the entire wheels tomorrow. I still have to get the rear brakes working before mounting the rear and then changing the front one. Hopefully will get that all done this w/e!

At $145, I might get one of those. I'm sure a shop would be cheaper but time to go and then get would be a lot more than the price.

I also like the concept of being more independent - and less dependent on shops. While we're going down this rabbit hole.....I can also see an investment in one of these could be justified! ![]() https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/rabaconda-street-bike-tire-changer?sku_id=10474862

I use a piece of tape with old weights stuck to it to figure out the correct amount of balance weight. Stick the end of the tape to the top (light) side of the wheel and add weights to the tape strip until it is balanced. The amount of weight on the tape is what you need to add to the wheel. |

REALLY appreciate it, sir! ![]() FWIW.....I looked at some other less expensive balance stands, but in the end decided to get this one due to how important having balanced wheels are - when those are the only thing that connects you to the ground! I rode two of my bikes this past week and one felt a little "bumpy" and the other smooth as silk. The smooth as silk one had brand new tires put on it when I bought it and I'm sure they were also balanced well. I bought 2 pair of new tires earlier this year when Bridgestone started their rebate program. That program ends on June 1. I think I will go ahead and get another couple pair for some of my other bikes now that I'm learning how to change them myself. https://www.bridgestonemotorcycletires.com/en-us/promotions/spring-2025-promotion-us

^^^ Burt Munro, Bill?
Rear brake work today......going through old calipers and assemblies to make two rebuilt ones. I use wooden paint stir sticks to get the pistons out a little at a time so they don't fly all over the place!

That was at our Distinguished Gentleman's Ride held yesterday. Postponed from a week ago due to a weather bomb hitting Wellington. I've admired this Ducati for years at the DGR. I took the trusty XR400R on the ride. I saw a VFR amongst the bikes too. Lots of great people and a lot of us had a drink together after the ride.

Nice "modern" version but too futuristic looking for me. I prefer the old school Interceptors. Here's the next one I have coming to be added to the quiver.....
