New kitchen gadget
Every year about this time retailers start push some new kitchen gadget hard. This year it's all-in-one cookers. MrsWD got one for a friend for Christmas and asked it I wanted one. What the heck, it'll probably end up in the thrift store in a few months, but why not try it.
So, this this will sear, simmer, pressure cook, and warm food. We did some chicken dish that used the pressure cooker and shaved about 10 minutes off of the time it took the make the meal. ![]() Yesterday I made chili, and it was kind of nice to sear the meat, saute the onions, then cook the chili all in one pot and just by pushing a couple of buttons. The pressure cooker is automatic, you don't have to monitor the temperature, which is nice. It doesn't do anything that you can't do in any well-equipped kitchen, but I may keep it around just for the convenience of the automatic pressure cooker.

We have one and use it for rice and steel cut oats. It does a few other things just fine but it is just another tool in the kitchen. It does some things not so good and the texture of some dishes can be off.

I have a Crock Pot does that count, a Fissler and Kuhn Rikon pressure cookers and a number of Dutch Ovens.. LE Creusets, Straub and Griswold.
I bought the Crock Pot about 40 years ago at Gemco and the Griswold was my Mom's. The rest came from you know where...the place where used and unwanted kitchen stuff goes....not to mention Draggn azz jeans..

We had one for about a year...think we maybe used it 5 times. I don't get the allure, and much prefer a slow cooker.
Some people make it sound like the best thing since sliced bread...to me it just took up a bunch of cabinet space and we finally gave it away to someone in the neighborhood.

We still use a crock pot for some stuff and for meat use the suis vide more than the Insta or crock pot and the crock pot more than the Insta pot. The Insta pot makes good grain dishes though. Steel cut oats are by far the best in the Insta. For canning and ding jam/jelly we have a large pressure cooker.

We have one. Makes great Pho!!
We use it for lots of dishes where we want the meat good and tender. Can get a nice stew or soup a lot quicker in the intsapot. |

I got a rice maker from the second hand store which actually works.
That really helped free up time and cleaning. I freeze rice on a cookie sheet and put in bags for easy stir fry. |
