I think we could all stand to be a little more sensitive and understanding.

That was not easy to type without laughing.

My doctor told me I needed to start watching my weight, so I got it out in front of me where I could see it.

Serial, it's sad really knowing that a few extra pounds will keep me from living forever.

Hey kach, sometimes you're really good for a laugh man! It's not our sedentary lifestyle or horrendous eating habits, it's all because of Roundup and glyphosate! What, you didn't find a way to blame contrails too?

I lost about 40 lbs several years ago, you know how? I stopped eating crappy food and I stopped eating as much food. What a concept, right? I've gained about 10 lbs back because I've become less diligent and have started sneaking a slice of pizza or cookie every once and a while, obviously they were tainted with Roundup because it can't possibly be my fault?

These conversations are insulting to intelligence because when you distill it down to reality, it is so damn simple. Want to lose weight? Each less, eat healthy, and bonus if you can throw in some exercise as well. Want to know why you're fat? It's because you eat too much, and eat unhealthy food. Why are so many people fat? Because food is tasty, and we are fortunate to live in a country where tasty food is everywhere. Why don't more people lose weight? Because weight loss is a major change in lifestyle that is hard and requires sacrifice, and people generally don't like things that are hard and require sacrifice.

IMO If there's food in front of us, we are hard wired to eat it. (because it may not be there tomorrow)

It's an evolutionary thing.

Probably no surprise that it was the same in Portland in those same years.

Totally different subject, but I didn't know anyone whose parents had divorced until my freshman year of high school.

WTF? How do you know how much I drink? Four scotches isn't that much...and I wait until 6pm. There you go. Now you've pissed me off and I'm going to have a drink and it's only 4:47. It's your fault!

I have no doubt that there are folks that have a medical/pathological/physilogical/biochemical reason that they are fat, but I suspect that's something ridiculous like .01%. For the other 99.99%, it's what you said.

I’ve thought about this recently. A look at any magazine or website shows unhealthy people as the new norm. But it really showcases obese women mostly to me.

I need to lose weight no doubt, but I’m not in a bathing suit frolicking on the beach like it’s healthy.

I’ll bet most men would take a thin or average woman over an obese woman any day.

In times of stress we are programmed to go for the fattiest smorgasbord and build up our own reserves.
We are pretty good at it.
Problem is, the cure has become the disease.

It doesn't play a role in the North Texas/DFW area; almost never cold here, yet droves of fat asses everywhere you look - male and female, young and old (but then again, maybe the heat keeps most people indoors - swilling soda and scarfing ice cream).

I don't drink soda or anything with high fructose corn syrup. I don't eat candy or anything with refined sugar in it. Well....maybe a cookie now and then.

Do I have an eating disorder?

I did not say "all".

My opinion, you are half right at best............
Part of the problem is the all or nothing attitude our society breeds, everything is taken to it's extremes and dialed up to 10. I said half at best, not all.

Going back 35-40 years ago before Round-Up was in all of our grains and high fructose corn syrup was the standard sweetener people in America looked much different.

This was basically the pre-PC computer era, we had to get off our butts to socialize and physical labor was looked on with pride, and president Reagan called us heroes for it.

In 1980, Coca-Cola began using HFCS in its beverages, and by the mid 80s most other soft drink companies had followed suit.
I hear people say all the time but I don't drink booze, don't drink sodas, don't make a lot of poor food choices, I'm moderately active (golf regularly) so on and so forth, yet I'm a miserable slob (in not so many words). I have seen these people try exercise, but it's like squeezing a sponge, it just returns to it's former size once pressure is released.

Go ahead look at photos of people from 30-40 years ago. Then list all of the changes in diet, herbicide use and yes our physical activity levels. It is indeed "ALL OF THE ABOVE".

Several people in this thread have lamented about the young women never enjoying a period of optimum physical attractiveness as they carry extra poundage and muffin tops in their late teens and early 20's.

What about the young men?

I know several 25 year old men that are fat, almost effeminate their testosterone levels are so low.

Age 25 is when T-levels start dropping, and it's all downhill from there. When they get to my age (late 50's) they will not be able to look back and remissness about the old days when they were in their prime and a real stud.

They may not have the drive to get back into shape to recapture some of their youth because they never really had one, they were born middle-aged.

I made big changes in my life about eight years ago, cutting down drastically on wheat consumption (the most heavily contaminated grain) and increasing my physical activity. I've only lost 20 lbs on the scale but lost 6-inches on my waist and have more muscle now than at any time in my life.

Reversing the clock is not easy, but it is possible if you are aware of what might be holding you back.

Throw out all of your cereal boxes and granola for a start, then cut out the bread and pasta. Then read up all you can and find your own path, what works for me might be different for you.

You can think of inflammation as a food allergy reaction, when I went gluten free eight years ago I lost 20 lbs in the first six weeks but it looked like I lost 40 lbs because the inflammation in my gut went down.

Once you get immediate results like that it's all the inspiration you will even need to start looking at your diet more closely.

Yes you need to exercise, most of my physical transformation did not happen until 3-1/2 years ago when I started exercising nearly everyday.

Say what you will, but the weight problems in our population are widespread, no escaping the fact that starting about 35 years ago things started going wrong, very wrong.

No, you are quite normal in my eyes.

I follow the 80/20 rule.

I eat properly and exercise 80 percent of the time, then 20 percent of the time I'm more lax and cheat or indulge a little.

Remember this is a life long struggle, you have the rest of your life to reach your goals and you will always be working towards that goal.

No need to beat one's self up for messing up, your body probably will do that for you anyway.

Set a goal and don't stop until you have reached it. Then set another even higher goal, always be working towards something or you may slip back down into the abyss.

Glyphosate has been shown to destroy our beneficial gut bacteria. Our gut bacteria is the only place in which essential amino acid Tryptophan is produced in our body.
