If you haven't had the chance to before, you should go test drive the PDK, it is so quick and smooth in up shifting so as to be mind blowing. Then the rev matching downshifts are so precise and entertaining to hear, they put a smile on your face.
The acceleration and brakeing performance can be so intense that staying focused on managing the car and it's trajectory is enough to keep you well occupied with out being distracted with interfering with that amazing gearbox and its magic. Or you can simply cruise along in relaxed comfort slipping through traffic or traveling distance with untiring ease. Being a lifelong manual guy, I'm amazed how much I like the PDK. Which ever gearbox you choose you are in for a treat. Cheers Richard Last edited by tevake; 02-06-2019 at 08:36 AM.. |

Do you have plans of taking your money with with you in the end?
If not, enjoy! Your wife will probably donate your money to cat groups anyway .... wait, that's my wife.

The only (very slightly) nuts part might be not waiting for version 1.1 instead of buying 1.0... It is substantially newer of a car vs a 991.2, but probably not a huge deal. Maybe new production niggles, under warranty... Had a few on my 991.1 at the time. Waiting 6 mo/ a year for them to iron out early issues is sometimes good, then again you might get hit by a meteor before then, so go for it ! ;-)
PS: not really gonna get into PDK vs manual, but this being a toy car in the end I went for the involvement of the manual. The 7 speed is actually decent (esp when you consciously forget 7th exists) and got even better in the 991.2 so I imagine the 992s will be great. I wish I had PDK on traffic days, but the rest of the time I'm happier with manual. To each their own, both are fine. Also the electric power steering assist "numbness" is journalist bull$$hit. Every porsche with Power steering has been numb vs my 72T. This one, no more, no less. It's *fine*. Great %$#%$ cars overall, now with torque. Buy one ;-) Last edited by Deschodt; 02-06-2019 at 09:22 AM.. |

Whether you get a manual or not would largely depend on the traffic you drive in.

I was just reading a thread elsewhere on a $29000 PDK replacement on a 991, picture that out of warranty.
In fairness though, the manual is using PDK guts so depending on the kind of failure it's not 100% out of the woods either (though logically it should be more reliable because it's not automated) ;-) Food for thought though. I bought a manual, no sunroof, limited options, all on purpose as I was planning on keeping the car way past warranty. |

I’m gonna drive both. I prefer the manual and I don’t drive in traffic so stop and go isn’t an issue. I read somewhere that the shift gate on the 7 speed is real tight, do you have experience with that?

But 7th is a totally useless gear unless you are cruising on a long trip. On my daily drive I rarely even see 6th. It' s fine box and I hear it got even better in the 991.2 so it stands to reason the 992 will be great. I never found the gear spacing to be a problem, it's very well sprung along the 3/4 plane so it's always obvious what's where - and you cannot go to 7 from anything other than 5 or 6 I think (i never tried), so at all times it feels like a normal 6 speed. With a $hitload of numbers on the top of the tree ;-) |

I have an 18 GTS 4S Manual. All I can say is just do it! I'm not crazy about the new 992 body, as I feel they nailed a real 911 body with the 991 but the engine and trans are the same( I believe )
and are just a blast! The manual is about 100xs easier to nail every gear than a 915 or a 901 trans and the power, suspension etc will make you happy. Like ridiculously so. JUST DO IT! YOU DESERVE IT. |
