Another Air Pistol
I think I'm going to like this one...
![]() It the Weihrauch HW 45, a spring-piston gun. This one is in my favorite high powered air gun caliber, .20 or 5mm. It has two power settings, depending on how far one compresses the spring when cocking it. JSB Exact 13.73 grain pellets just broke 500 fps over my Chrony on the high power setting. Not bad for an air pistol. This thing takes half the cocking effort of my other spring-piston gun, my Webley Tempest, yet achieves almost twice its energy. The sights are outstanding and fully adjustable with very clear detents, the trigger is wonderful, and the fit and finish second to none. The thing just oozes German quality. All steel and aluminum, no plastic whatsoever. Not cheap, but still in the price range of a decent .22 pistol. And yes, those are standard 1911 grips - it will accept any style of those you could want. Cool little gun. I'm going to enjoy this one.

If I shoot a cat with this one, will it kill it or just scare the krap out of it? I'm tired of cleaning up after my neighbors cats.

Nice gun Jeff. A good addition
As far as shooting someone else’s pet, say a black lab named Ed, who pooped in my yard, Wa State has laws to prosecute depraved individuals performing such wanton acts. As a lifelong dog and cat owner the mere suggestion, even in jest, is far from funny.

Most folks would be thinking of nuisance animals in their garden, or under their shed, or whatever. As a matter of fact, I've killed five large rats just this last week that were burrowing under my deck. We are experiencing a new wave of construction in my formerly pretty rural neck of the woods, and the critters are seeking out new homes. "Not in my backyard", quite literally. I've been using my Weihrauch HW 80 .20 caliber air rifle. Pretty damn effective. It achieves about 800 fps with the same JSB pellet. It's scoped, which makes it a better rat gun, since this is all done at night. Far easier to see the "sights". I could not imagine shooting a cat, though. Especially a cat known to belong to a neighbor. No way. Not only poor neighborhood relations, but pretty damn deranged, heartless, and cruel. Only some kind of a real deviant would even consider such a thing. I hope you were joking.

Real smart posting this with your name and location attached, besides the fact that it's a despicable thing to consider.

Sweet air spoon Jeff!
And as a cat owner all your idiot neighbors need to do is set up a cat box with litter. It is very inexpensive and just common sense pet maintenance. Would you shoot at your neighbors dog if it was pooping in your yard?

500 FPS is really really respectable.
I’m gonna chrono my unmolested Blue Streak. I shoot the same pellet. I bet I don’t get much more speed. Pretty cool air gun. |

A big white cat craps in my yard as well. I bought one of those sensors that sprays water from my garden hose. It has sprayed me more often.
Now? I just find the mulch piles and excavate for the cat nugget when I’m looking for my own dog’s piles. |

Nice air pistol!
Regarding the cat comment - feral cats can be a real problem. Pet issues should be resolved with the owner.

May have to consider. As far as ferals, it's all a matter of perspective. Around here we welcome them, they keep all the other varmints under control. In my hood I'm the designated caretaker but neighbors pitch in on the food and, if required, vet bill. Most neighbors pitch in looking out for them. They are the neighborhood version of a barn cat.

When I was a kid we had a problem with feral toms killing our barn cats. Eventually a german shepard puppy solved that problem.
The first house I bought had a few acres in a mostly rural area. The area was overrun with feral cats. Eventually my neighbor (who had cats, dogs, goats etc.) shot enough of them that they weren't a problem any more. I know they roughed up my beagle a couple times. Our current neighborhood (a dozen houses surrounded by woods and fields) has a pair of outdoor cats that belong to residents. They are no trouble. One neighbor doesn't like them hunting at his bluebird houses, I've never seen them at mine. My current beagle is more aggressive than the first one, they may be intimidated.

I haven't tested this but heard if you sprinkle coffee grounds in your garden it will discourage cats... and it is good for the garden!

Thanks for the advice. Exactly which neighbor should I deal with? How do I determine if it's a neighbors cat? Will by neighbor come over and clean up after their cat? When a dog barks all night, I know just who to talk to because good neighbors don't let their dogs run around loose all day. Plus the fact that dogs must be on a leash in this town.
