Picked up a bunch of laminate flooring the other week. The wife wanted the basement floor and our granddaughter's room re-done. So, after 30+ years of the cushion floor, which is brittle, we are going from this:

My knees are not happy with me at the moment.

Good day... managed to get brightener through epoxy primer. The fillet material around the canopy wasn't on properly prepared aluminum so I removed it prior to today's steps. All in all I'm stoked with the progress.

I can hardly move the east door on the barn, was her statement.
OK. I'll check it out. Hmm, the sliding door doesn't want to slide. A definite prerequisite for a sliding door.
Upon closer inspection, a metal wheel can be seen lying in the track. OK indeed.
Fortunately it was an easy fix. I had a couple of spare "trucks" with all their wheels. I didn't even have to take the door off the other truck. The offending one had been on duty for almost thirty years and had lost three out of four wheels. I'm not sure how she was opening and closing it at all for the last while. Farm girls are tough and determined. Even in their late 60s.

Put a couple of preliminary coats of aerothane Nevada silver... big fan of aerothane, not keen on Nevada silver though. It's seriously tricky to shoot without appearing mottled
In any case it always wet sand between coats so this will be the next step after full cure.

But a couple of these, to hide the Porta Jon’s, so the dainty neighbors are not offended. 🙄

It’s a neighborhood in Bluffton, SC, and we have to enclose the dumpsters as well. Part of the overzealous ARB rules.

I like when we build in neighborhoods we own. We get to make the rules and do what we want. Building in neighborhoods already established, with over the top ARB and overzealous neighbors, makes it difficult.

Under the heading of "Projects which expand while you're at it "
While fitting the new flooring in the bath, I realized the moisture I thought was condensation was actually from a 43 year old shut off valve on the feed line for the toilet. It was going to have to be replaced and since I would have to get the toilet out of there to access the pipe, "Why not replace that old toilet and the other one too with dual flush models?"
So this morning after a quick trip to my local hardware store,(the lady in plumbing is one of the best), I managed to get one toilet replaced before noon. The other is in my sights for tomorrow.
This all started with the flooring.
Oh yes, the laminate flooring will be replaced with ceramic tile in the area of the toilet, while I am at it.

Swapped out my winter wheel/tires for summer wheel/tires. It seems every year they’re getting heavier.
Sucks to get old.

Installed a Garmin Catalyst, looks too high tech for a late 80s race car.
Was easy to install with the windshield removed.
Race next weekend, see if it helps.

Install a new speaker on the left front door of my F150. Also, some sound deadner.

Ok. Bathroom done. Got most of the family room covered yesterday. One downstairs bedroom left to go.

This summer, when the granddaughter is at camp, her bedroom will get new flooring as well.

So much fun.

Just a small repair on the sprinkler system that I personally installed back in 1999, so in the last millennium!


I built the system with 14 sections, and a total of 99 spray heads. My master gardener wife has taken over more and more of the yard and turned it into flower gardens. The photo above shows where it was connected to the T on the right of the second image. That glued in joint just pulled out.



I have a water well to irrigate with. No pressure tank, as the valve opens then the well kicks on. The next sections valve opens and the previous one closes. None of it was designed or really glued together as a pressurized system. This one flowerbed, she decided to convert to a drip irrigation system. So I just separated the flower bed section from the well, and hooked it up to city water so it can handle the pressure.

I can only assume it was the one glue joint that I clearly used primer on, and did not get glued together with enough glue.

So one connection that came apart after 26 years. Not too bad for a novice sprinkler system installer. I sure know what idiot is to blame. 21 years later I fixed it under warranty!

Only a billionaire can pay me enough to install another sprinkler system in August in Oklahoma, or anywhere else on the planet.

Starter decided to pack it in a week before we’re heading to Florida. How hard could it be, it’s only a 5.3 lbs engine.
Well after fighting for over 2 hours I gave up. One starter bolt turns but won’t come out. It’s seems to be stuck in the housing.
There’s no easy way to get leverage to get the bolt out. My neighbours son is a mechanic, he’s coming over tomorrow.
I actually googled the symptom and I’m not the only one. That felt a little better but not much.

I was thinking how many things I fixed this week. 4 brake jobs, 4 four wheelers, 4 riding mowers, 2 roto tillers, 5 chainsaws, a golf cart, lots of work on a conversion van stereo, roof vent window regulators, door seals, and paint work, buff. Also cut up a bunch of firewood. And I started building a cupola for the garage. I guess thats about it
