Continuing Thread: What Are You Fix-It'ing Today?
Thank you guys!!! Your words mean more than you realize.
It was good to bring closure for him and it has helped immensely with his own demons. Hit three times on deployment by EIDs, resulting in a TBI and PTSD all wrapped up in one soup sandwich. He has to be one of the most intelligent men I know without a degree. Can fix anything and comes up with the most ingenious ways of finding solutions for people. He has the biggest heart of gold, puts others ahead of his own needs, and will help anyone in need, especially other Vets. He has no other family so Mrs bugs n I have taken it upon ourselves to make him a part of our family. We are always available for him 24/7 and will drop everything to help him out. As far as “fixing things”, there is a story behind that topic. As I mentioned, I went to ground for several reasons, the main one is that I wrapped up a 31 year career with the State of CA. Mrs. Bugs n I were in the same line of work and we bother were lucky to wrap up careers that we weren’t shot, nor had to shoot anyone else. Close, but never had to in the defense of others or ourselves. Five days after my final shift, I went to work for a private firm as a technical trainer for aircraft systems used in my old line of work. So you could say, I was fixing systems and folks knowledge base. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In November, I resigned from my post retirement gig to fix my life. 26 weeks away from home was taking a toll on the family, grandkids and parents. I needed to get back to basics and get things done and focus on family. I know we all hear it, but each day is a gift and you can not buy time. Everyone crosses the same finish line, some earlier than others. First thing I accomplished, multiple burn piles and property clean-up. ![]() ![]() Now the focus is “catching up” on all the things I have fallen grossly behind on. Hope to get up to the hangar and get working on the Fast Mover, 912’s and the 911. Everything has just been sitting…… ![]() Cheers, Bugs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I made four small ramps, to drive on, when I use the quick jack on the 911. I may or may not need them, but I figure lifting the car up just a little bit, will give me more room to position the blocks between the car and the lift.
I’ll need to make a another one, as the first one, came up a little short…🤪 ![]()

How did you make such shallow angles on those wide boards?

Looks like he used a power hand plane. When I had the old E and the Miata, I used slightly larger ramps knocked together using 2 layers of 2x6. I cut the bevel on those with a chain saw..

I stood the board on its side, then used my circular saw to cut as much as I could on both sides. Then I used the circular saw to cut the already cut piece off. You can see those pieces next to my speed squares. That left me with about a 1.5 inch wedge shaped section that I planed down. Probably took me about 20 minutes to do it all.
My concern is, the rear ramps will kick out. If that happens, I think I will use a rope to connect the front ramp to the back ramp. My thought is, the weight of the car/tires on the front ramps will hold the rear ramps in place. Last edited by A930Rocket; 01-08-2026 at 06:42 PM.. |

I made ramps like that too cut on my band saw. 4 longer boards and 4 shorts which I add after the car is up on the longer boards. I glued 60 grit sand paper to the bottoms and no kick backs.

I use wood ramps aswell. They almost never kick out but I usually use them on blacktop and my concrete is not very smooth. But they arnt slippery like metal or plastic would be.
I am working on my sprite. I never liked how these cars have straight rockers it makes them look cheap and homemade. Mine needed work anyway so I cut them off and making them curve under. Also removed the little kick up at the front hood and put a bit of a kick up at the front of the rocker instead. The hood needs alot of work anyway. Also got the back wire wheel conversion and brakes done. Zero new parts I was able to piece them together from a few other axles I had from 73 midgets so they now have the updated dual piston cylinders. ![]()
